Have you ever visited a psychic?

Had this discussion the other day with friends. Has anyone ever had a psychic reading? How did it go.
We all agreed it was just for shoots and giggles, and we do not take it seriously. But several of us have,
I shared the story of many years ago when my niece, Nicole, was about 3or so. My sis in law had taken her to a pediatric dentist . The dentist said she seemed to have an overbite, and would probably need braces when older.
Following week I went to a psychic fair. The guy asked if I had a little girl? I said a niece. He then went on to tell me about her overbite and will need braces. Damn

Many moons ago, I was heavily into the occult- aura reading, Shirley McClaine, Casey, etc. We had a little like minded group. I was asked to do some 'readings'. Well, I did, and I wasn't half bad. Then it dawned on me that what I was saying people were interpreting that into their lives. Example, "I see a death". Ans: "Oh, that's my grandfather." I saw how easy it was to slide into believing the occult, and I became a realist.
People want to believe and will turn anything into proof for them. And there is a reason why psychics charge- DUH!

Yes, several times in my twenties with spectacularly accurate results. I'm no dummy, I know all about 'cold readings' and non disclosure on my part. Factual, down to actual names. The only famous one I went to, decades later, was a complete dud.

My mom was a firm believer and, in fact, one of her close friends was a reader/medium.

When my kids were in elementary school we lived in an old rental home situated in one of the small town's older areas. We'd lived there for over a year when it started giving me a weird vibe that lasted for several weeks. And the family dog started acting really weird, too...barking at this one wall every night, and the next minute wagging her tail at it and begging *some invisible thing* to play with her.

I told my mom about this during a phone conversation, and she told me to write down everything that was happening and mail it to her. After I sealed that letter in an envelope, the vibe was gone and all the weirdness stopped. And the dog slept all night.

Mom gave my letter to her friend who said there was a female entity in my house named (in life) either Cheryl or Shelly who passed several years earlier, was very, very closely related to my kids, had stopped in to watch them for a while, and wanted me to know I was doing a great job raising them, and to stop worrying because they were going to be just fine. Cheryl or Shelly also said the 2 boys were hilariously funny and made her laugh a lot.

Marie, mom's reader/medium friend, had never met me, and mom swore on her mother's eyes that she never told her I'd been married and divorced, was the single father of 2 boys and a girl, and that the kid's mother, Shelly, had died in a car wreck when our daughter was only 18-mo old.

And, indeed, both my sons have a great sense of humor. One is more sarcastic, but they're both hilarious.

I had a co-worker go to one. So I went. She was what I called a psychic fraud.

Very general. She said something about 'sexual abuse.' A lot of sexual abuse victims are overweight. I am but the abuse I've endured was not sexual. So I think she just threw that out and it sticks to some. All in all, I don't think I believe in it.

That said, I just knew my one co-worker, who was going to be my relief Saturday, was going to call in and she did. She does call in a lot. I can't imagine why she has money issues. Gratefully another co-worker did the double. She's just back from maternity leave and wanted the money I think with her husband home on weekends with the kids.

Many years ago my grandfather went missing. He was 90 years old. My sister and I got tickets to see Jean Dixon who was a psychic. We made sure we didn't say anything while standing in line. After she started talking she looked at my sister and said "I have a vision of your grandfather who is missing." My sister didn't say anything. Then Jean said, "They will find his body Tuesday." Sure enough, they found his body Tuesday.
So I do believe in Psychics.

..but surely Marie... if he'd had real psychic abilities he would have known the little girl didn't belong to you and wouldn't have had to ask...

Did you happen to pay for your tickets w/a credit card?
They can get info about you from your cc

ETA; I'm no psychic, but that's what I've been told. :sneaky:

..and yet it was shown in later years that Jean Dixon was a fraud... I heard of a prediction by Jeane Dixon that the world will end in 2020. Is this really true?

I've told this story here before so I won't go into the whole length of it... but I worked in the next studio on a show which was being recorded at the same time as the ''famous medium'' show in the next studio.. this was a medium that had everyone believing he was the real deal..

Our show had it's audience queuing in the foyer waiting to be seated in the studio..which was a normal situation.. and the next studio would always have the same.. but for this show.. Mr medium had runners dressed as elves..and fairies, and the he invited all his audience ( who had been invited personally after applying for the show and had previously chatted to his assistant on the phone ).. to sit and have tea in the tearoom, before his show started to record..

Well of course everyone was chatting about why they were there and telling the Elves and fairy waiters all about themselves..

The rest as you have probably already guessed is history... all the info was passed onto Mr Medium.. and he was able to call out to Edna..that George was there.. and so on...

I watched this go on.. ad I told several people at the studios what was happening..but of course he was the big draw at the time, so nothing was said or done.. but not long afterwards he was exposed as a fraud.. when during a seance the lights were unexpectedly turned on and he was seen holding a spirit trumpet in the air, which the audience had been led to believe was being levitated by spiritual energy

In my late teens or early 20's, friends and I visited a psychic. He predicted I will have 3 children and that a "LOUIE" is a relative. I have 3 children and my sister husband's last name is "Louie". Sister was in her teens at the time and did not know a "Louie".

I have never been to a psychic since - I am afraid of "bad predictions".

I never went to a psychic in my life. But, as a teen my friends and I used to go to a tea house and have our tea leaves read. They were always wrong in the the things they told us. None of it ever happened. As an adult I had my tarot cards read and the reader was right about about everything. Amazing woman. My mom and her BFF went to a psychic I can't find anywhere and his prognostications were so accurate it was scary. I wish I could find him now, but it's probably better that I don't. I don't want to know or hear about a future with challenges. The future is fluid and what you make so hearing negative stuff wouldn't help a person.
