Have you ever walked out of a restaurant due to poor service?

We have a favorite Mexican restaurant that we frequent. We went there this morning. We were in no hurry, but after 10 minutes sitting there with no one taking our order we simply left and went somewhere else. We didn't make a scene. We simply walked out. I know restaurants are in need of help these days and it was unusually busy due to Mother's Day, but...

I only remember one other time in recent memory that we walked out because no one came to take our order. Again, no scene. Just left.

I've never walked out because of bad service, but I have let a couple of managers & owners know when the service was bad.
The worst incident was when I was married & we liked a particular restaurant in Malibu, CA - The Sea Lion. We ate there often.
On one evening, the waitress was the problem. Apparently, she was new.
The coffee cream container was almost empty & when I asked for more, she replied, "There's enough in there."
When I told her the clam chowder soup was cold, the waitress said, "It's hot enough."
I said, "Are you having a bad day?" she replied, "None of your business."
I left a penny tip & she stormed out after us as we were leaving & threw the penny at me - LOL.
The owner heard the commotion, came over, I told him how she treated us & he fired her on the spot.

Once only and it was in Frankfurt. No-one came near us when we were waiting to order some dessert so we called for the bill, drew a line through the gratuity space, paid the bill and left. We found a McDonalds where we had some coffee. I made a mental note not to bag McDonalds in future.

If I’ve been seated, I’ll wait. I will walk out if there are tables available, and no effort is being made to seat people over several minutes.

over the years, I have worked in a bunch of restaurants. Bus Boy, dishwasher, prep cook, delivery guy...etc. etc. etc.

Just a note....those stories about restaurant workers spitting in your food when angered?

Sorry to say, that yes, they are true. I saw incidents like that in every single place I worked.

So, re that Mexican restaurant? I would not go back. Chance that one of the workers saw you, noticed you left and has decided to await your return...for some disgusting prank? Just be super careful....because restaurant people are notorious for that.

oh, and re angry restaurant workers...

we can use that to our advantage.

The reason they are angry, generally, is that many, many customers treat them horribly and tip them horribly.

If you are a regular at a restaurant, try tipping LARGE.

So, let's say you went to breakfast and the bill was $30. And normally you would tip 15% or say, $5. Waiters and waitresses are highly aware of tips and who tips well.

If, instead of giving that $5 tip, you give, say $7....just those couple of extra dollars will often turn into a lot more than $2 worth of extra food, better food, better service, etc.

Since we have been doing that...we literally get portion size increased by 20%, friendlier and better service....and the food quality is often, hard to calculate it exactly...but TONS better.

Not saying it is fair or anything...but, it works. At least for us. And I can't imagine we are special. I think it will work for a lot of folks...

At our regular Chinese take-out...not only do they give us free food...like a free egg drop soup, they will often give us these Chinese buns and other authentic Chinese food, for free. I think they are giving us samples of the stuff that they cook for themselves! And...it is soooooooo good!

Kind of, service so slow I just gave up and left without eating a few times.

The worst service I have had in recent years was at Tujague's in New Orleans. Should have walked out, about half the patrons did, but we stayed and tried to make the best of it. A real disappointment, have been eating there all my life and always really enjoyed it. However it came under new ownership and management a couple of years ago. I won't be going back. Too bad it is one of the oldest and best known places in New Orleans.

Yup, Denny's. We got there about 2:30 AM, we were traveling and hadn't eaten since noon. There were dirty dishes all over every table, and nobody around. We were the only customers in the place. Finally, a waitress came out, and started giving us grief about not standing near the "hostess station".
My ex told her where to put her 'station" and we left.
