Have you prepared a 'Last Will & Testament'?

This is not a 'happy' subject...but one we should have faced, and time is running out.

My husband and I do not have a Will prepared.
We saw a lawyer a few years back and his fee was to be over $500 dollars, so did not continue at that time.

Our situation is not complicated. Two sons, two totally owned properties...no problems or unusual conditions.
Can we do this 'on line' ....and if so, which web site do you suggest? Also, what about a 'Living Will' ?

I have had a will for about 20 years..... Good job seeing as my husband died suddenly.
i don't think it matters how simple you think your affairs are; without a will, the people left behind have even more to deal with...it is hard enough without that; do one...properly, ASAP. Please.

There are will-makers on line; which is how I did my original one; but yours may be different... Just check there is some sort of lawyer person overseeing them I suggest...
 
As a side-line...where my Dad lives, they tend to have a free make-a-simple-will month....every year he goes in and changes his; just because he can!
maybe you can look for a 'special offer'!
 
$500 to prepare two wills does not seem excessive given that solicitors over here charge around $200 per hour and that includes face to face consultation and drawing up the document.

Take care to avoid false economies. If your wills are badly drawn up it could cost your heirs a truckload of money to sort it out.

My advice - discuss what you each want before you visit the lawyer and keep it very simple. Think about how you want to distribute your estate and what is to happen if anyone in that list dies before you do. That is all most people need to consider.

Yes, we plan on keeping it 'simple'. One property and contents to each son.... that's why we didn't think we needed a lawyer and spend unnecessary dollars.

I still want to do this 'on line'. It's just WHICH web site is recommended.
 
My husband and I first made our wills in 1969 when we married, I was 19 he was 22. We have updated periodically ever since.
 
I'm from Australia so I can't recommend anything but I do know that over here different states have different laws about what happens if someone dies without a valid will, so I would recommend you check to make sure your will is valid where you live, and hopefully still valid if you should relocate.

Why should any one benefit from me after I did all the work.

How very sad! You could leave it to charity!

I am in the process of distributing the fairly sizeable inheritance I have received from my parents estate among our kids, I don't require it.
 
being single I decided I needed to make a will as I own property so it's now done, I've left money to charity, Cancer Research, local dog rescue and cat rescue too, it was important that it went directly to those I felt needed it and after what went on when my mum passed away I wasn't going to let anyone else decide what should happen. I've left my solicitor in full charge of everything so there wont be any family involvement and everything will be done my way
 
I did mine 5 years ago and this lawyer he charges..
WILLS....starting at $75.00
TRUST... starting at $395.00
Probate...startng at $350.00

I paid $150.00 back ,depending on length of will,I just revised it for $100 last January.

BIT of advice NEVER,NEVER do this type of business on the internet,in person is the best way to go to protect your money.

Not sure why you said doing on the internet would endanger money. No 'facts' or account numbers would be posted, would they?
 
Yes, we had a will and other arrangements made by a lawyer about 5 years ago. Been meaning to for a long time and am glad we finally had help to do it.
