Have You Seen Any Of the Oscar Nominated or Winning Films?

I haven't watched the Oscars in years. Last time I did, there were only 5 nominees for Best picture. I don't even go to the movies any more. No real interest.

I haven't set foot in a movie theater since I can't remember when. These days the movie crop seems pretty weak. I would prefer to stream older flicks in the comfort of my home.

I initially wasn't interested in watching The Oscars either but the program is streaming on Hulu. I found this year's actor nominees to be interesting as well as the format and of course I wanted to see what everyone was wearing. Normally I'd just watch the recap, but somehow I kept watching. Haven't even gotten half way through and I'll probably FF through most of it. Before this, I hadn't watched any of the award shows in over a decade.

@ElCastor I considered the possibility that you had misread what I wrote.

I saw Barbie and Oppenheimer. Shrug. I'm glad Greta Gerwig made a lot of money on Barbie. That will help more female directors be taken seriously. But it's not a film for all time.

I feel a little dumb for not becoming a rabid fan of Oppenheimer, but I think maybe all the younger people who work in tech and on teams loved that one the most. They saw teams up there on the screen doing Big Important Work with Science, so they could relate. And the Federal Government portrayed as the Antagonist, which is, of course, is a bit how it was in the 1950s. Put women in the kitchens and let the WWII Veterans get jobs and keep the Communists away no matter what. That was the 50s.

Was Oppenheimer supposed to be the equivalent of Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg today, with the mean ol' Congress always calling them in for hearings? IDK. Mean ol' Congress makin' laws. So mean!

Saw Maestro - a walkabout piece for Bradley Cooper. I wish it had more music, ironically enough. It was good though.

IDK if I will ever watch Killers of the Flower Moon - it's just another gangster movie, IMO. Just as I have not seen all of the Godfather flims because I really hate to see movies of people getting away with crimes, IDK if I will ever watch Killers. Sounds depressing as can be.

I will eventually see The Holdovers, Poor Things and American Fiction. IDK about the others. Murder (depressing), Auschwitz (very depressing) and lost friends (depressing).

I can not understand all the hype about Barbie. Nothing in the trailers I've seen made me want to waste time watching it, not even when it comes to streaming. And that Ken song...why was that up for an Oscar?! I agree about Jeffrey Wright, though even he, nor Anthony Hopkins or that cute James Marsden could make me watch more than a couple of episodes of Westworld. Just didn't grab me. A good friend was really into it and she recommended it to me. I first saw Jeffrey Wright in Lackawanna Blues a couple of decades ago, during which I recognized him as an exceptional talent. Great cast in that movie. Lackawanna Blues (film) - Wikipedia

@RadishRose I had mentioned this a couple of other threads. I have ADD and rarekt watch anything that's 44 minutes long (the ad free length of an hour show), in one sitting. I usually stop after 23 - 26 minutes. I may stop watching TV or even go on to watch something else and come back to that show later. I usually watch movies for a little bit longer but also break them up into manageable segments, so that I wind up watching them like a weekly series. :D Crazy, I know, but it works for me.
My hubby feels exactly the same about the fact that the Barbie trailer shows nothing that interests him. He refuses to watch it. It was playing for free aboard a ship we sailed on in February. It was during a sea day so I went to see it again because there was nothing else to do and I wanted to see if I watched it until the end this time if I would appreciate it more. I didn't.

Like you, I have a bit of ADD but if I go to a theater I can sit through a movie because it's a "day out". I won't watch one at home because I prefer my entertainment in small blocks. You should really see American Fiction. It doesn't hurt that Sterling K Brown is in it either!

Miraculously I do sit through movies in the theater. Perhaps that's because I only go to the theater(s) to see movies I'm dying to see and usually it's with loved ones, so it's the whole experience that makes it enjoyable. Last movie I saw in the theater was The Little Mermaid. My honorary daughter knows I love mermaids, so she treated me.

I wanted to see the Black Ariel and support same. There was a lot of negative backlash about Ariel being played by a Black woman, which I think is ridiculous. I was a little disappointed because I didn't realize how much of a musical it was (and some of the songs didn't cut it for me) but still it was fun and now that it's on Disney, I'll probably watch it again.

Yes, American Fiction...great cast. I've loved Tracee Ellis Ross since her Girlfriends days, Erika Alexander was good in one of my favorites, Living Single and yes Sterling K. Brown has earned his props. I didn't even realize that Leslie Uggams is in it until I checked Wikipedia. Thank you for validating that I should see that movie.

I share your lack of interest in today’s movies. The days of celebrated movie stars and the desire to see their latest flics are behind us. The stuff they are cranking out these days is barely worth a yawn.
