Have your opinions really changed as you got older, or are you the same?

Well, I've completely changed my political party about 6 years ago.
No longer having to work at a mindless, asinine, senseless means of support,
I now am submerged in Literature, Philosophy, metaphysics, art, writing, physics,
poetry, and most of all, spiritually! I am avid, HUNGRY to learn as much as I can!
My entire attitudes about everything have changed the last few years.
I know the height of my goodness in this world and revel in the depth of my hedonism.
I've completely expanded my parameters in all directions.
Don't feel old at all! I feel I'm just beginning to live! Constantly and rapidly changing!

My catholic upbringing had a big impact on the way I viewed the universe, about God and about the afterlife. Now, having learned of The Holy Roman Empire, that's pleasantry speak for dominating countries that have different beliefs, I'm more sanguine about the teachings of the church of Rome.
Truth be told, they probably would prefer that I went quietly elsewhere than to espouse my feelings about Catholicism.

My opinions have changed. First I was whatever-comes-naturally. Pretty aimless. Then I was a Christian according to The Church, lots of structure, lots of social interaction, but eventually it became too suffocating. I'm still a believer but not according to the Church and think the opinions I had in the past were stupid and thoughtless. I'm watching my sons and their wives stuck in the same belief system with all the do's and don'ts and shoulds and shouldn'ts as dictated by family and church. It's a bunch of BS, but that was me back in my thirties too. I hope they grow out of it in time as well.

I can relate to your post. I have changed in many ways, not for anyone else but for myself. I've never been big on politics.. just went with the flow - I'm more spiritual than religious. I had to let go of a lot of beliefs that were handed to me - some of them has caused me great suffering...therefore, slowly letting them go. I came across this and it hit the nail on the head:

Once upon a time, I was a nice, sweet, perfectly
innocent and great little girl...
Too many people ^%&$#& my mind up
And now I am a......... I won't post the rest, it does not pertain to me but could have...lol.

Change for me has been inspirational and a blessing. @Gaer have you read the book Healing and Recovery by David Hawkins? Excellent book. Has enlightened me on Health, Aging and a few other things....an eye opener FOR SURE!!!!

Oh yes, for sure I have changed my ideas on life, people and the world. I have really changed my ideas on church and why people go there, the way the governments treat their citizens, my ideas of freedom in this country (unfortunately, really going down the drain), my views of kids, women, politicians and pretty well everything else. Sorry to admit I used to be on that stupid "treadmill." No more! Used to be a consumer but now I make trips to charity shops. Owning things is pretty much owning a lot of crap. Used to travel the world but today I see travel is a herd thing and planes are just elaborate "cattle cars." I have always been a "long wolf" and in that way I am still the same. Couldn't stand being a sheep. There are just too many sheep out there and I am not going to follow the flock. Young women all wearing torn jeans and all the young guys wearing the same beard just makes me think of a flock of sheep. What ever happened to original thinking ?

I love WheatenLover's response re: opinions changing as we learn more. Mine definitely have.

I grew up in organized religion from a very young age and had many experiences that soured me. I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that as I have become enlightened I am no longer a fan.

My opinion of various ethnicities has changed for the better as I have traveled the world and our country has become more diverse.

My opinion of politics has also changed as I have gotten older. When I was younger, I didn't really care. Now I realize decisions made on Capitol Hill can affect my quality of life, so as much as I hate politics I follow them.

Some of my opinions have changed right along with the new experiences I have had. The biggest change for me has been becoming more open minded. I learned from taking the cotton out of my ears that my way is not always the best way or the only way. I am much more open to suggestion.

I used to think that people were basically good and decent, and that evil people were outliers. Considering the ugliness our country has gone through during the past few decades, it seems that there are far more evil people — people who lack even basic decency — than I thought. I still believe that the majority of the population is decent, but that's a slim majority, and I may be wrong about it even being a majority. In other words, my worldview has been completely upended. It's turned me into a misanthrope.

I have gotten much more tolerant. I accept people that are very different from me much more than when I was young. There are man ways to live your lives and who am I to say what is the right way?

I've never been able to accept anything on faith alone, and in that respect, my opinions haven't changed. I've never been religious or superstitious, or followed anybody without questioning them. My inability to simply do what I'm told hasn't really served me well throughout my life, but that's the way I am.

My opinions about specific things have changed as i acquired more info and experience pertinent to whatever. My basic values have been constant, the main change being i now live those values more consistently than when younger, often without having to consciously debate with myself over how to do that because some things have become habit.

i often describe myself as an optimistic realist and pragmatic optimist. Positive changes in oneself, one's relationships and/or one's society can not be accomplished without some concept of how we'd like things to be ("ideals") but we have to work with what is to get from 'here' to 'there'.
