Having back spasms in whole back?

Buy some Epsom Salts at the store and soak in a hot tub when you get home. After the bath put on some stretchy clothes or pyjamas and stretch. Lay flat on back and bring one knee at a time to your chest. Then lay flat on your back again and move one knee over your body to the opposite side. Then move your upper body the opposite way. Do the same to the other side. Do a few slow downward dogs if you can. Then lay down and try and have a nap for 20 minutes.

It only did it for about ten seconds at a time twice and then stopped but I can tell that my back feels like it is subject to this happening again. Is this something tdat would require urgent care?
Wife driving and it feels good to sit straight up in car seat.
Hoping this is over with will call the doctor first advice!

OH Thank You! Sounds like great advice.
I will do all of that but I don’t. Know what a downward dog is? I’ll look it up.

You may want to see a chiropractor

I’ve never had a lot of back problems before but I have felt like my lower back muscles were sore whenever I moved wrong for the last couple of days.
I wonder now if that was some kind of a warning.
It was like I was going about my business and an electrical shock suddenly went through my whole back and for a few seconds I felt like my back was so cramped up that I was totally incapacitated.
I don’t think there is anything I could do but just stand there, try to relax and hope that it eased off.
I felt super good before that hit me like that and super scared for a while afterwards and that didn’t help me to relax!

Thank You! I don’t get up and down off of the floor very easily at 81 so that complete version looked like it might be real challenge for me!
I came home and carried everything inside and my wife said maybe I should take a muscle relaxant.
I looked for and found an old bottle of them that were left over from when a muscle near a wing bone tended to knot up several years ago.

I have these spasms but not often. My grandpa had then in his leg, so does my dad and now I do too.

The other night I had a spasm that ran the length of my body while lying in bed like someone mentioned earlier.
Took me some mental calming and focus and slow controlled breathing to feel better. Might be time for a chiro visit, I don't like going because he's so expensive.

Chair Yoga is literally made for seniors. Gentle stretching....and not getting down on the mat.

I agree. This is much safer .

Nathan’s suggestion to use a chair for downward dog is definitely more appropriate. I didn’t know how old you were but considering this IS a seniors forum , my answers ā€˜should’ reflect this.

Thought I would do a follow up on how my back is doing.
I have been taking naproxen - two 500 mg
morning and evening.
My wife has been rolling CBD liquid on the affected area three times a day.
I found out what the affected area is called it is the gluteus medeus.
Those muscles right at the top of the butt.
I bought a hot and cold band and have been applying heat a couple of times a day.
Then after identifying the proper muscles I found an article telling how to stretch those muscles and other good information on how to deal with the problem.
It is called - Gluteus Medeus pain What it feels like and how to fix it.

The exercise that has helped me so far is while sitting up straight bring your foot up across your other leg above the knee.
Then grab your knee and pull it towards the chest while leaning forward.
When you feel those muscles stretch hold it like that for about 40 seconds.
Then do the other side the same way and when keep pulling a little tighter as the muscle stretches.
He suggests doing a rolling massage by laying with the muscle on an object and rolling back and forth on it.
I haven’t got that far yet or the other exercises that are supposed to help strengthen those muscles but just stretching the muscles has helped so much already.
I can’t find the words to tell all of you how much your advice and encouragement has meant to me.
I really prefer therapy over just going in and getting a shot because the therapy usually cures the problem while a lot of the time the shot is just a temporary pain relief.

Felt like the stretching was the answer but the pain and stiffness has come back with a vengeance.
Plan on calling a pain doctor Monday and will be taking pain meds and using a muscle pain balm in the meantime.
The pain must tire me out because I am able to sleep for a couple of hours two or three times a day and still get a full nights sleep.
I only take a pain medicine a couple of times a day a day just to be sure that I don’t take over the recommender dosage.
One thing that makes it worse is if I anticipate the pain like when I am going to stand up or get out of bed .
If it take a minute to relax a lot of the time I can move without pain.
