Healthy Yet Tasty Dessert Alternatives

Gardenlover

The world needs more love
Frozen fruit is a tasty treat- Peaches, blue berries, apples, etc. and healthy too.

What's your favorite?

I keep some no sugar added fruit snack cups in the fridge for an easy dessert.

One of my not so healthy but small indulgences is 3 or 4 dark chocolate baking chips. I put them in my mouth one at a time and let them melt. It only takes 3 or 4 to get the same sensation/satisfaction that I get by gobbling down a whole candy bar.

I do like frozen strawberries. I have never been much of a "dessert" person, though. But as a snack, along with the fruit, I will sometimes have , well, on thought I realize that it is pretty much fruit. I sometimes will have Yogurt on hand as a snack. I also love some nuts, on occasion, and fresh cherries in season

Frozen banana
2 tbsp. nut butter
2 tbsp. cocoa powder
2 tbsp. Coconut or almond milk
Cacao chips for garnish

Whip in blender until smooth and serve over thawed frozen berries . A great frozen alternative to ice cream 🍨

Fresh cherries and blueberries. We always have frozen blueberries, since we grow our own. Orchard apples and peaches are pretty good, when we can get them.
Apples with peanut butter.
Apple salad with veg mayo, walnuts, raisins, and marshmallow bits.
Blueberries added to coconut yogurt.
Blueberries on gluten free waffles with maple syrup.
Mango
Fresh pineapple

Fruit/veggie smoothies from the nutribullet
(I don't know what all she puts in 'em, but I do know I wouldn't eat any of it on their own)
aaaaand…..(drum roll)..... key lime yogurt

I make green smoothies with our nutribullet, or just fruit/veggie smoothies, sometimes with yogurt or kefir, but not always as a dessert, just because I like them and they are healthy.

What is bitters?
Gardenlover, bitters is traditionally an alcoholic preparation flavored with botanical matter so that the end result is characterized by a bitter, sour, or bittersweet flavor. Numerous longstanding brands of bitters were originally developed as patent medicines, but now are sold as digestifs, sometimes with herbal properties, and cocktail flavorings. Since cocktails mainly contain sour and sweet flavors, bitters are used to engage another primary taste and thereby balance out the drink and make it more complex, giving it a more complete flavor profile.

I don't drink but love the flavor. I buy the kind shown in the photo.

There are two kinds of chocolate (not counting "White Chocolate which isn't really chocolate).
Milk chocolate is mostly sugar - which is why chocolate gets a bad rap.
Dark chocolate - especially the ones with at least 72% cocoa - is actually low in sugar & very high in antioxidants - even higher than fruits & vegetables. Dark chocolate is very good for the heart.
Compare the labels on milk chocolate and dark chocolate; you'll find a big difference in the sugar & carbs.

I didn't know white chocolate wasn't really chocolate, but now that you mentioned it - it makes sense. The second thing I learned today. (y)
