Heating The House

As many age, circulation changes and they're always cold.
Many memories of my days as a CNA in July and August, sweat would be pouring like a river and residents sitting with sweaters and afghans.
My father in law kept his apartment like a sauna, heat cranked as high as it would go with electric heaters running too.q

Yeah, the old geezers with the thermostat set really high! I used to make fun of them till I became one. So, it was either upping the thermostat, or wearing a sweater. I'm cheap. The sweater won.
Exactly. With proper clothing worn indoors (like a snowsuit ) you can save thousands of dollars a year and help protect the environment. My zero degree bag comes down this time of year to sleep in, usually I’m ripping that thing off partway so I don’t die of heat stroke in the middle of the night. I offered to buy Aunt Mavis one and she replied “screw you!”

Don't like being cold. Moved from the northeast to the southwest because of low humidity & longer periods of warm weather, Comfort when it's hot or cold is not going to be compromised. Our comfort level inside our home is 78 degrees F. A simple thermostat that can be switched from warm to cold as temperatures dictate works for us. Right now the weather is working in our favor. Just like Goldilocks & the 3 bears not to hot not to cold.

We're usually comfortable with inside temps of 67-69, tho to get that throughout large living room we have to tolerate temps above 70 nearer the wood stove. We have electric space heaters in bedrooms and bathroom. With where bathroom located heat from woodstove wafts in there on all but coldest of nights.
Today i'll probably be starting fire early as we're getting our first real 'cold front', accompanied by wind and heavy grey clouds. Most of October we only needed it for an a few hours in evening that raised indoor temp enough we could let it go out in middle of night but the warmth kept the chill at bay till morning sun could do it's thing.

Or maybe she figures she can't take it with it her, she'd rather than spend it on herself--her own comfort, here/now than leave a pile for relatives. Especially those trying to tell her how she should live.
She doesn’t have a pile that’s for sure. She does have a 1976 Trans Am 6.6 though. I sit in it and go through the gears during her nap time. 4 on the floor!!!

When I visit Aunt Mavis she has the house heated to 75 degrees, yikes! I say “Aunt Mavis, you know you’re heating the pots, pans, chairs, carpet, drywall, beams and everything else contained in your place. Wouldn’t it make more sense for you financially and for the environment to just mostly heat yourself?” “Screw you” is her reply. Round and round we go.
I have a friend in her early 90's who is as feisty as it gets. She still lives by herself. She drives fast and honks at people who don't go when the light turns green.

She still has a landline. The last time I visited, her phone had just rung and it was a telemarketer. She said "kiss my a**" with her Texas drawl and slammed down the phone.

She had her phone unplugged on one occasion and her family was concerned because she wasn't answering. They asked her eldest son, who lived close, to go to her condo. He had a key and went into her bedroom where she was sleeping. He said they were worried about her. She said "F*** you!"

I love older people who tell it like it is. :ROFLMAO:

I still have a landline. I often take it off the hook during the day so I can sleep. My son is aware so he does not panic right of the bat. I am often tempted to answer spam calls or political calls and let them have it. It serves no purpose but to upset me further, I just leave it alone.

When I was younger I was always cold. Then in middle age I was too hot and now I am cold again. If I am sitting I keep the heat at 76. If I am cleaning or doing other chores I have it on 70. I also am colder in the evening.

Gary, that is not a bad thing, your body has gone thru a big change. While healing you will burn a lot more calories during the healing. That can make you feel chilled. Your body is responding to the surgery to help you heal. I lost about thirty pounds before and after my hip replacement.
"Another Gary in the neighbourhood", (at least not one known to get chased by bears in winter! :) )?

I'm tempted to try to come up with an extra insulated space in the house, (a bit like an iglooo without the ice!), so your own body heat, or minimal background heating does the trick.

However, the likelihood is sticking close to the wood burner on the coldest days will be the way to best cope again in winter, (if igloo idea fails).

She's a figment of your imagination this aunt of yours in my humble opinion, and until some kind of proof is forthcoming I'll stick to that view.

Still, if she does exist its hard to fault her direct, no nonsense way of speaking, and I'd guess an anthology of her best put downs could be worth publishing, (bet your uncle kept his head down when she was in a mood too! :) ).
