of a local 58 yr/old woman with cancer....She was killed police say, for her pain meds ! Worse yet she was killed by her own cousin...and an accomplice .

Be very careful who you share certain information with....The ones we used to be able to trust the most, are no longer necessarily so.

Killing people to get their hands on a person's narcotics is becoming commonplace. Most addicts have this mindset that older people always have pain, like arthritis and their doctor prescribes opiates for relief. So, who better to rob than an elderly person? I have arrested quite a few relatives for stealing Aunt Mabel's or Grandma's opiates. Old people hate a thief and they don't care who stole from them, they call the cops.

I remember one old gal several years back, made a complaint that her grandson was over for a visit and right after he left, she went to the medicine cabinet to get a pain pill and the whole bottle was gone. At first, she thought that she must have set it down somewhere and forgot where. Her sister dropped by and told her that the grandson was at her house the day before and the same thing happened to her. So, they decided to call the police and after a very short investigation, the grandson owned up to the thefts. To my surprise, both of the ladies signed the complaint.

I have watched so much "Investigation Discovery" that I am seldom shocked over the reasons for murder any more.

As a side note; we have a few bottles of various pain Rx obtained for past dental procedures, minor surgeries, etc. I seldom have taken them but when I have, I always wondered why anyone would be addicted? I get no "high" from a pain medication... or any other side-effect besides an occasional upset stomach or being sleepy. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a junkie. :D

I don't get any pleasurable reaction to them, either -- well, I mean other than the relief of pain, which is what they are meant for.

I firmly believe it is allot like drinking / getting drunk?....If a person wants to get drunk they will..yes I agree there is the chemical reaction component but for the most part that is exaggerated by the person themselves...IMO it is all part of an addictive personality . And much of that comes from needing a crutch..........jmo.

THANKYOU! !!!
I have been asking this question, mostly to myself since this opioid issue has been talked about as nauseum. ..

I have had morphine, dilaudid and cocaine for various medical procedures as well as oxycontin, Vicodin and Tylenol #3 for pain. Don't get a high and get off them at the earliest time.

Drugs didn't necessarily make the killer do it. It facilitated/enabled the murder. But the suspect probably didn't think much of this cousin or had low morals to begin with. The drugs simply removed impulse control. I've found one of the best indicators of a true personality is how people treat you and others under stress. I've been pleasantly surprised by some and/or unfortunately disappointed by others over the decades.
