Hi, Yo Yo. I tried to post after reading about your Raspberry Chambord cake, but I started drooling & the keys were sticking.

Welcome Yo-Yo to the forum :) I can just imagine how difficult it was to make a new start at the tender age of 16.
Do you still have family in Japan or did they join you here?

Good Morning everyone and Wow thank you all who have responded with all the wonderful new welcome messages that I have not yet gotten to. I will certainly post some of my favorite cake creations once I figure out how to post photos and all the jazz on here. I do have a very small amount of family still in Japan. My younger brother who was 2 years younger than myself just recently passed away in 2019. His wife and 2 two grown children still live in Japan. I also have 1 cousin who is a bit older than me living that lives there. That is it as far as I know. Like I said I never married or had any children so there are no relatives here in America. As for coming to America at the age of 16, I was at an early age a determined go-getter type of girl. You probably also have heard stories of back in the day of how Asian cultures(mostly China) looked upon girls back then well it was similar in Japan as well to an extent where girls were to learn from there mothers and then get married very young and be a wife. I didn't want that for myself so I was determined to make it on my own and my parents had there son so they let me go. It certainly wasn't easy, but I was determined and it worked. I thank my mother for giving me the baking knowledge and I thank my father for giving me the money to get started. The rest I did on my own as a 16 year old who was determined to succeed.

Welcome, Yo-Yo! It is so nice to meet you. I am a 3rd generation Japanese-Canadian, turning 73 this year. You were certainly a courageous young woman, to travel so far - and you made your dream come true, which is awesome.
