Hello from Delaware, Ohio

Hey there, Treeguy. I just spent a fun week in Dallas in October. I've been to San Antonio and Dallas now, but not Ausin. . .yet :giggle:
Austin is a cool place to visit, if you make it here in the early Spring. Be prepared for some of the worst traffic in the US, though. Plan your visit, check out the live music clubs and some great restaurants, along with the Texas Capitol, and you'll have a great time!

OH NO! Worse than Atlanta? I'm headed to Florida this week to visit my daughter and am taking the "long way" just to miss Atlanta. I HATE sitting in traffic jams so I will definitely heed your advice.

Atlanta #11, Austin #14, so Austin is a little better, not much.

Welcome Marlene! ... I'm originally from NE Ohio (like Ruthanne), but I've been gone since college days.
Living my retirement out in Houston these days.

I can understand about trying to reconnect with old friends from the past. It just seems like it's so hard to bridge that gap after years of separation.

Hey Bonnie, The first thing I noticed about your post was your "dance" message :p I'm a long time dancer and always get a smile from dance messages. I had been gone from 1985 until 2016, so while the landmarks and a couple of family members are still here, all of the social aspects have changed fairly dramatically. . .Houston is closer to Cajun country than the other places in Texas I've visited. Do you get much cajun influence there in the music or dance? I love Cajun dancing

ah, so true, Nautilus, so true. I actually knew that before I came back here in terms of knowing that nothing would be the same (as I still have a tiny bit of family here and had visited regularly). So my expectation was that I would come back, some of my old acquaintances might have time for coffee and a chit chat once in awhile, and I would be able to make new friends. So far it hasn't worked out that way. And, so Robert Burns was correct, I fear.

“The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley.
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

~Robert Burns
"What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight
Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower
We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind."
- William Wordsworth

More Country than Cajun I would say, but this area is a melting pot of just about every kind of music/dance. Cajun is great! .. there is a lot of Louisiana influence in all aspects of life around here.

ah, someone aside from me who likes poetry. . .and I especially love the cadence of Wordsworth's words. . .

I especially turn to the last Stanza in his poem "I wandered lonely as a cloud" (better known as Daffodils) when I am feeling too lonely since it brings me back to my "truth" that I actually love living alone and don't mind being alone most of the time (just not all the time). I do a lot of writing, reading, drawing and painting, so being alone actually fulfills my need to create. . .but I do long for conversation :giggle: Oh what complicated creatures we humans are.

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Well, my mother was an English literature teacher and I have a photographic memory so between the two, I manage to retrieve things at will. While the other kids were playing sandlot baseball, I was "privileged" to watch the Hallmark Hall of Fame's presentation of "The Tempest" and to learn all about iambic pentameter i.e., The Concord Hymn. Of course, she was right.

how wonderful. . .I used to get accused of thinking I was an English teacher by my students since I made them use proper grammar in their papers (mean ole' demanding me :p :p :p

Hi Marlene, welcome aboard glad you found us
You'll meet some wonderful people here at SF from around the world
I'm only member of my family who still lives in hometown in Buffalo,NY Sue
Thank you. I've never been to Buffalo. I've been to Rochester and to the finger lake area, but that is the extent of my NY travels so far. I loved visiting the Bully Hill winery and then the Taylor winery. Such beautiful country.
