Found forum by accident and found it pertinent. I'm from NY, widow, work full-time and care for my 93-year old mother. Looking forward to learning some new things with regards to retirement as I am thinking of taking the plunge within the next year and a half.

Hello Betty.

"It takes a village to take of an old lady."

Me and Mr. Hipster take care of my 85 years old mom, she is still in her own home, and I plan on retiring in 17 months. I hope I hope I hope.

I came here by accident too and never left!
 
Me again Betty, I took care of my mom for 8 years. After she was here 3 years, my father, (parents divorced when I was 10), came to live with me also. For 5 years. Boy, was I ever hussleing. Two people that did not get along. I had to put them at different corners of the house. At least it kept me from going nuts.
 
Hi Betty, welcome to the forum, I'm a retired widow from Texas with a 93 year old mom also, my mom still gets around pretty good and lives by herself....anyway just wanted to welcome you to the forum.

It is certainly very diverting when you need some time out.
Also it sometimes helps to share your hurts, worries and frustrations with sympathetic strangers.

It becomes even more fascinating as you begin to differentiate the various personalities that make up this online community.
 
Just wanted to thank you all for your most gracious welcomes. I see some of you enjoy graphics, especially "Victorian". I am a Victorian history buff and have a website about the Victorian lifestyle. I've also dabbled in designing my own graphics. I don't get to it much right now, looking after my mother but I will most definitely get back to it in time.
