Hello from the chilly north of England

Hello all. I'm a 66year old retired British guy, currently living in the far north of England a stone's throw from the Scottish border. Hadrian's wall is just up the road from here.

I retired when I was 60from a career in Social care and Education. That is early for the UK,but I was lucky to ride the wave of savage government spending cuts following the bank 'crash'. I was one of the lucky ones and got an enhanced package and early retirement and I have done well out of it,unlike so many.

I have travelled extensively having grown up in Hong Kong and visited many places between the UK and HK. I have never made it to America though –where I see the majority of members here are based. I would love to have done so – though I can't see it now.

The Lake District(please google it!) is a few miles from here. I spent much of my time walking with my two Border Terriers on the beautiful hills there(they are called 'Fells' here).

My partner still works,so I am a bit of a house husband. My mother, almost 91 and hail and hearty lives close by and I see to her pretty much every day, so with that plus the computer, games playing, photography and other pastimes I keep pretty busy. I still miss work now and again five years on.I'm sure that is something often repeated here.

Anyway that's me for now! Glad to be here! (And apologies for the thread title being chopped off - not used to the system!)
