Hey everyone,

I am writing to you from sunny Wilmington North Carolina. I've been living here for 10 years after having moved down from the Washington DC area.

I enjoy golfing, fishing, theater, volunteering my time as a business and career coach to young entrepreneurs in the area, and traveling and have spent some time in Panama, Nicaragua, different parts of Europe, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, will but I feel like I still have so many places that I want to visit.

Although I'm retired, I am actively trying to figure out how to make money with Internet marketing. It seems to be pretty lucrative but I may not be computer savvy enough. Either way, it's fun trying.

Welcome Fspier. I am fairly new here too. I love Wilmington! It is such a beautiful city. We had an uncle & aunt that lived on the inland waterway, north of the city and we used to spend summer vacations in the Wilm. area - the beaches are great! We considered it for our retirement but DH decided the summers were still too long and too hot. We're ultimately headed to Maine but figure we'll be ready for a trip south about March/April once we're tired of the snow and cold weather. DH grew up in Silver Spring MD - just north of the District. He always thought he would like to go back there to live but a few years ago we went up and the traffic was so intense, I think he has finally given up on that dream. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the forums Fspier! You sure picked a real nice city to settle, although I must say I've not been any place in N.C. that I didn't actually love. ;)

Aloha and welcome from The Big Island. I used to have a condo up at Lake Lure, which is near the big towns of Bat Cave and Chimney Rock. Never made it to Wilmington.....

I've been all over NC as I lived in East TN for 10 years. Chimney Rock, Grandfather mountain, Asheville, and the coast. Was actually trying to get a job in Wilmington so I could live near the ocean when I met my Scottish husband and moved abroad.

Welcome. After living in Washington DC, how do you like NC? It's on the news a lot lately for issues that some consider bigoted and backward. I would think that could be quite an adjustment.

Welcome from farther south than you! :)

May I please PM you sometime to ask about Wilmington? I have been looking online for HUD-subsidized senior apartments there and have found a few but haven't found websites for them. I want to move to the beach and Wilmington is one of the few places I've found where a person can actually be poor and still live within a reasonable distance of the ocean.
