My name's Arlene... I found this site a few days ago on my search for pretty much anything.. Since no one had responded to my thread https://www.seniorforums.com/showth...ivities-in-Brooklyn-for-disabled-senior-woman
I'm assuming no one here is from Brooklyn. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should go about searching. I am 68 years old today.. and not very internet saavy.

thanks

Happy Birthday Arlene, welcome to the forum, happy you're here and hope you have a wonderful day! :welcome:

Hi Arlene,

Even if we don't find anyone from your area, you will fit in here. We are from all over, and it's a fun forum, we'll be glad to have you with us. I'm sorry I didn't see your other thread. I'm betting some of our people on SF are from your area:) They just might not be online at the moment. But there is always someone here it seems like to me:) Denise

Hi Arlene, I'm sorry I didn't notice your intro as well. I hope you won't think badly of us all?

I just joined a few weeks ago as well and I've enjoyed all the folks here myself so I think you'll find it pretty nice to come a spend your time with all these great people. Welcome and Happy Birthday!

Welcome Arlene, don't get discouraged some of my posts, no most of mine just sit there like lead balloons. You never know what will interest members. Join in whenever the mood strikes you. Lack of internet/tech knowledge is just temporary, it's like I used to people that I worked with, the beauty of computers is that it constantly changes, you can start anywhere and in a short time you will be able to hold your own.

Think of Google as your friend, answers are there to any question.

You know what's funny? - The heading on your post 'Hello World' is usually the first statement you code for beginning programing languages.

Hello Arlene, and welcome to the forum! "Pretty much anything" pretty much describes this forum! You will find many different people, from many different places, with many different interests. Although you are searching for a brick and stone location in Brooklyn, here you will find a virtual community, where you can fit right in. Glad you found us!

Thank you all for the nice Birthday wishes. I really appreciate the encouragement. By the way, where are a lot of you folks from?

Good morning, Arlene. If you look at the upper right hand corner of each post, there's a spot that gives the location of the poster. Sometimes, members would rather not reveal their location and the "Location:" will be blank.

And a belated Happy Birthday to you. Hope it was a great one!

All seriousness aside, not-a-lotta-people know this, but that is where the expression "Our little corner of the world" came from.:)

Now, that the weather is getting cold, I'm worrying about being stuck in the house. It was hard enough when the weather was nice. I need to find a good activity to keep me upity.. if you know what I mean. And I'm one of those people,, I don't know what I'm interested in. How do many of you stay occupied?

Is there a senior center anywhere nearby? A group at your church? Do you live in an apartment or a house? If in an apartment, maybe ask your neighbors if they'd like to get together once a week or so just for coffee or to find something to do together, like a movie. Or check for Meet Up groups in your neighborhood.

Aside from the fact that I need the money, I work to have something to do and so that I can get out with the lights and the people:) I'm sort of the "new" kid on the block, and my neighbors are mostly young couples raising kids. The older neighbors already have their lives and their established friends. It's not easy to get accepted into a group that's been together forever. It's not that they're unfriendly at all; they're really quite nice, but they don't seem to have room or the time for newcomers:(

Hi, Arlene -- Welcome. I'm 68, too. Right now, my main activity is trying to heal up from a dislocated shoulder. Not much fun. As soon as they'll let me, I'll get back to my normal exercise stuff, and trying to find something interesting to do around here in the wintertime. Before I wrecked my shoulder, most of my time was spent helping my niece, who is terminally ill. I need to find a little something to do for fun, for my sanity's sake.
