Help, Neighbor With New Pool and Lots of Noisy Kids!!!!

Our main home is in a nice golf course community. New neighbors 2 years ago. Early 40’s, 2 middle school kids. In March heavy machinery showed up in their back yard. Digging.....moving dirt, trees. I asked him what was going on. Oh, we’re putting in a big pool so our kids can have all their friends over. Total cost $65,000.

Ugh, we have a beautiful backyard so quiet, large patio, love being out there in the summer. Wife says, “Oh, it won’t be bad.

Well, construction is now done, warm evening, and the noise of about 12 squealing middle school girls is maddening. Hopefully, by mid summer the thrill will wear off. Kill me now!

.

I like my 50 year old neighborhood because most of the people here are older and settled.
Some of them bought their homes here new. Also... NO HOA !!

My daughter and son in law have a pool-and 5 kids (although only 2 left at home now). It gets very noisy and the neighbor behind them calls the police constantly. But the man is nuts. Even his adult daughter who lives with him brings her kids over to swim. But I have to say,if I lived next door, nope,I would move.

You can only hope to stay inside when they're out there screaming, I wouldn't like that next door either. Good luck, hope not too many beach balls get accidentally thrown into your yard. :D

HAHA. Reminds me of a similar practice around here, called "Mansionizing." It's really making people mad.
People buy a house with a nice view of trees, mountains, landscape, then the property owner next door builds a big 2-3 story house. Now the view is the side of the neighbor's house.

I wonder if your pool neighbor understands the liability issue of a pool full of kids.

Personally, I like noisy kids, barking dogs, etc. It helps drown out my tinnitus....

When we lived in the city, the next door neighbor had a pool, and sometimes their kids would have their friends over and it did get a bit noisy for a couple of hours. But, I would rather see the kids having fun in a family supervised area, then running loose on the streets. They were all nice neighbors and well behaved kids, so a bit of noise occasionally was no big deal.

I used to complain to my dad about noisy neighbors and one time he said "well, how long does it last? Can't you take it for a few hours?" It made me mad he said that but now as I am older than he was when he said it I listen to him.

In addition, try getting some good ear plugs; that's what I do now.

Noise bothers me unless I'm the one making it! :):playful::eek:nthego:

IMO the best solution is to get busy doing something that requires your full attention, the noise will fade into the background.

Good luck!

Our neighbors put in a above ground pool years ago and they used it a lot that first summer. Now the only thing we hear in the early morning is the filter pump plugging away all by it's self. I guess the thrill is gone..

Our other backyard neighbor had a trampoline for a while. We'd be in the backyard, barbecuing, having some drinks and talking, then start seeing these little kid's heads come bouncing above the fence looking at us.. :numbness: That didn't last to long either..

Those large trampolines can really be a headache too ... kids bouncing and yelling, and throwing things over fences.

Bonnie, I was just going to mention trampolines. And they can be dangerous.

When I read threads like this I'm reminded about the apt vs house debate.

Years ago, had a young neighbor boy behind our fence jumping on a trampoline. He was home alone after school, (parents at work) and he threw a steak knife!! over the fence trying to hit our dog. That really shook me up. I didn't call the police, but went over to their house when the parents got home and had words! Never forgot that incident.
Was so happy when they moved away and took their trampoline with them!

My sister and her husband got their (at the time) school age boys a huge trampoline for Christmas. I went to visit and got on it with nephew once, just for fun. Of course, their home quickly became popular. But people have hit their neck/head on one of those support bars and ended up paralyzed or worse.

I've heard celebrities - Ray Romano for one - say they would never have a swimming pool or a trampoline at their home.

A toddler can sneak into a pool in the blink of an eye.

Noise...yes,I'd find that very annoying. Just like motorcycles, loud music, barking dogs. No thanks.

We had a pool at our last home. After it burned and we built a new house and I swore that I’d never have another one. Between the insurance, taxes, chemicals and the pool service, those expenses are out of line with our budget. Besides, I learned early on that if you have a pool, you are expected to have parties and supply all the food and beverages.

After nine years of that, I was ready to fill in the pool, but then, the house burned. As for the trampoline, the grandkids wanted us to put one in here at the new home. Not going to happen. Parents need to realize that along with these items, (pool & trampoline) comes a certain amount of responsibility and if your kids or grandkids bring friends, the owner also has some liability, which means that your insurance needs to have a rider to cover the items.

I could never understand. What makes females able to scream and males can't?

It will die down. The thrill will disappear and boredom will set in again.

You will see the pool empty for most of the year.
