Here I sit at 2:30 AM sucking Oxygen

Breathe deep. It can improve.

A woman from our church, a smoker like you, was in a bad way, needing oxygen most of the day and had a mobile unit to allow her out of the home. That was several years ago and she uses it much less now and drives herself around. She has rejoined the outside world.

Don't despair, don't give up. The world is a better place with you in it.

I've heard that
Matter of fact, a guy down the path was hooked to a tank, until the hospital (for some reason, prolly monetary) took it away
He got it back, but found he needed it less from doing just that...breathing deep

stay with it, sir Jim

When I worked in Senior Health Care in Denver, Colorado, I'd sometimes have to go to one of the Care Centers. Seniors would be transported by small buses to these Centers for medical stuff and lunch. When I'd arrive and leave, I'd see Seniors sitting in wheelchairs, with an O2 tank next to them, hose/oxygen mask laying across the arm rest and they'd be smoking a cigarette. I couldn't help to think what I was thinking...…….like, "what the heck?".

That's interesting, Warrigal. I'm wondering if relying too much on oxygen might "discourage" the lungs from trying to heal. The human body is amazing sometimes in how it tries to repair damage.

Yes, AZ Jim. :rose:

I wasn't suggesting that Jim cease the oxygen, just that his need of it may diminish over time.
Medical advice should not be ignored and hope is always better medicine than despair.

Jim, a lot of us used to smoke when we were younger and took chances of having lung cancer or conditions like COPD (which I don't even remember being mentioned back then). My mother always warned me that they were 'nails to my coffin', and oddly enough she buried my oldest sister when she was only in her early 40s, died of lung cancer that spread, she was a smoker. I'm happy the oxygen is helping you, and there when you need it, even if that's full time. Keep your positive attitude, it's the best health aid we can give ourselves no matter what bumps we cross in the road of life. :love_heart:

MY Mom and dad both died in their 90's and were smokers for years. Their longevity was my rationality for smoking from age 20 to age 55. I got on a fitness kick and just decided to quit. I was lucky That I never developed lung cancer, instead I got non related to smoking PROSTATE CANCER.

I quit for the last time in 2004. Per DR's orders.

Had a chest x-ray last year they said my lungs looked like I never smoked.

Your body can heal; but do what the Dr. says.

My father was a chain smoker for most of his adult life, 18-60. Then the doctor found some white spots in the back of his throat at about 60 and my father stopped smoking cold turkey. He died of stomach cancer at 82. I mentioned to my own doctor how it was ironic that he died of cancer but not related to lungs. She said that we each have ''weak organs'' and those are the ones affected. I've made a lot of dumb mistakes in my life, but am glad I never smoked. ONE positive for me!
