Here we go again:

I should clarify this. I made it sound likes it’s my bank, it isn’t and neither are all the other banks that I hear from. It’s not unusual to get 2 or 3 of these a week. Can’t do much about them except trash them.

I wonder why some folks tend to get these types of email, telephone calls, etc...

I get my fair share of scam/robocalls but I rarely if ever get any sort of spam or scam pitches in my email or on FB.

It's not that I feel cheated just curious as to where the average criminal goes to get their list of email addresses and contacts.

One thought that I've had is many of my friends that have had issues on FB seem to participate in quite a few quizzes and games that ask a variety of questions to tell your fortune, favorite color, stripper name, etc... I wonder if those things are some sort of flytrap to collect information on people that is later used against them.

Yes I think the media quizzes and others that want to tell you how you look when older or describe your personality for example, or the chain type that insist that you will suffer if you don't pass them on, are to blame for a lot of these unwanted spams. And the 100s that come in Messenger asking you to forward to everyone. Best to resist the temptation to participate.

I got a call, supposedly from Apple, informing me that my access to my Apple devices was frozen and I had to set up a new password. The caller said she'd "help" me do that/ The only problem? I DON'T HAVE any Apple devices...

The minute I see who or where it is from, I notify my provider that it is either phishing or scam. I never open these as I am in terror of ransomware.
I had ransomware once on my computer, sigh, but got it removed, computer was fine and learned a lesson. 😂

They use what is called robot calling.

It's an automatic dialer that detects a legitimate phone number and rings it. If you answer you are asking for trouble. I think they sell the numbers to each other.

As soon as I get a number I don't recognize I block it so they can't phone me back.

Sometimes when I'm not sure I go to a pay phone and call the number if it's in my area code .

But these people are clever. They set up a fake number somewhere in your area code.

You don't have any privacy on the internet at all. You are being traced all the time.

Now they send everything online, caution here. Three weeks ago my phone (cell) started cycling through the pictures file. I installed an app that monitors internet and wifi activities. Leaving my sharing pictures open let them in.
Camper6 is correct in saying that the robot callers gathering working numbers.
As for the internet, even more care is needed,

Here is one source for getting info on you. Don’t fill these things out. They sound like fun, but they have an evil reason for doing it.
