Heroes and Villains?

If you were an actor or an extra an interesting question. Would you rather be the good guy or the bad guy? Or even a character basically good forced to do something bad. How about an evil character who somehow redeems themselves? If I could learn to project my voice I'd give a township production a try.

A character that comes to mind for me is from OINB. For those who haven't watched the show...(no spoiler)
Miss Claudette is a senior character. She is a long-timer, beaten by the system, bossy, bitter. But as her character develops she softens a bit until she reveals herself almost completely.

Then something tragic happens. She walks down the hallway simmering with anger. Suddenly a confrontation and she explodes. I could imagine playing a role like that. Reaching into your dark place and going bat crap crazy. Of course such a scene would take a lot out of you, especially having to repeat it several performances.

But yeah what kind of character would you be?

Definitely the villain, though actors have had their lives, both professionally and personally, ruined by a villainous role. Patty McCormack, the child actress who played the evil little girl in "The Bad Seed" said in an interview that she suffered afterwards because people had a hard time looking past her evil role and treating her as a normal child.
 
What is OINB?

I would like to try both parts. The villain for the character study and trying to get inside such a character's head. The heroine because she gets the hero. ;)

(Oh, heck, I might forego the hero and just ride off on his white horse by myself!) But then they would have make a sequel with me as the villain -- the horse thief -- and it would have to explain my motives .... which would be good, a sequel means more money for the cast!
 
Very true, you feel bad for people who get typecast. Especially in the past, the wrong movie and an actor might never get work again.
 
Bela Lugosi kind of made a career of being the villain so I guess I could handle that too.
 
Of course Mattc! Film noir is my favourite. So much scope for a female character to develop a multifaceted personality, rather than be boxed into a stereotypical fluffy, feminine persona, usually with the depth and sensitivity of a grapefruit. Lolol.
 
Weird though when the bad guy is you suppressed. I'm always unicorn farts and sunshine. To play somebody truly evil...wow.
