Hey, East Coast buddies?? The weather is looking "stinky"

Are you guys hunkering down, or is Fox news giving false info??

Well, here in northeast PA we're sort of on the outside of the really bad stuff so far. We have a few inches of snow on top of a layer of ice from a previous snowfall. The winds are nowhere near what they're predicted to be in NY, NJ, CT etc.

You guys are a bit more inland thank goodness, but when I was in touch with that gal out at the Lake, she was constantly (during the Winter) telling me I wouldn't hear from her chances were, since they were going to get hit, and lights out.

Oh, yeah, we're just as lucky as all get-out here. ;)

I remember seeing, when I lived in NYC, Wall Street dudes going to work on cross-country skis during some really bad storms.

I was never that ambitious. Plus, my students had to come to MY place, so I could just sip my hot coffee, look out the window and laugh. :devilish:

OMG, I never heard of folks going to Wall Street on ski's but I do believe it, that's when your job owns you, not the other way around.

As Fat Clemenza in The Godfather said,

These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one.

He was talking about mob wars, but I think the same can be said of big storms like this. It's just that the increased media saturation makes it seem like the end of the world.

Hmm, so Joisey is where FEMA stashes all the bugs?

That's right.

There's an area called "The Bug Barrens" where all of PA's bugs are brought to live in tiny little manufactured cocoons. They are given several drops of sugar water per day and must submit to random venom testing.

I think somehow this could return to our earlier discussion about the "half man, half fly" LOL!! Man, FEMA better order up some teeni tiny rubber gloves hey? Headed for the rack and some readin, but no writin, and no rithmatic. But, I'LL BE BACK! ;)

I moved to Florida from Michigan a long, long time ago and I don't miss the snowstorms. The seemingly-endless night that my late husband, my 5-year-old daughter and I spent huddled at the Michigan border on I-75 in three feet of snow in the back seat of a Pinto wrapped up in one blanket with a Dixie cup to pee in was probably the deciding factor in leaving Michigan.

We are in the middle of it in RI with about two feet or more predicted. I made sure that my gin supply was topped off so I am ready to ride it out...

Well wind is howling outside right now. My old horses get to eat breakfast in bed today and the dogs are pooping in the garage! So it's getting ugly but I expect it will be worse later in the day. But I went grocery shopping yesterday so we have a full 'treat' cupboard, lots of fruit and the fire is snapping and crackling in the wood stove behind me, so it will be a cozy day indoors. And if I get bored, I can always work on our tax stuff!

The north north east seemed to be getting hit hard-with wind as well as snow. But NYC got a free un-necessary snow day.

The media hyped this storm nationally. Sheeple think oh national news it must be right.pffftttt. If they are predicting a couple feet of snow you snow you should already know what to do and what will be affected. You should have plans in place as should your landlord and workplace. Just like if they predict a hurricane, tornado, heat wave, cold spell etc. Part of the problem is that the sheeple of the masses are spoiled by climate controlled environments, technology and an extreme dislike for work-SNOW DAY- wuh hoo. Except if you have to work or need money you are screwed.

I lived in all environments and in several parts of the country if people don't experience extreme weather for a year or two they conveniently forget "what to do or expect" so rather than go out a buy a couple of cases of water, non perishable food or just buy a week or two ahead of schedule when they forecast these things shame on you. It's not just money either, some go into denial wanting "happy thoughts" only just dreading what ever weather than deal with it. Life is about survival, bare minimum survival, not the Super Bowl, not the latest & greatest iphone, celebrity scandal. Life is about bare minimum day to day survival which our ancestors learned 10s of thousands of years ago. Instead we got metropolises full of metro sexual wussies more worried about their fashion than a cheaper piece of clothing that will actually serve a purpose.

The most frustrating part is seeing these politicians talking and acting like they know. These press conferences should be cut and dry and to the point with facts. They should use terms like "I've been advised, experts say, the state police said" Instead you bozo politicians like NYC Debozo talking like a prophet, like he knows better and you don't.

Now you going to see the cry wolf syndrome. And the outdoor sissies will still not learn how to dress and act in the cold. Or stop crying for that 10 second walk to the car in the summer so they can get the a/c going.

Pffffttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Oh geez, you guys are lucky you survived. We've had at least one I can think of (folks stranded) in the last few years. A couple had taken the "scenic" root from Grants Pass to Gold Beach. It is lovely, but they were not knowledgeable about the weather patterns, nor the road, most isn't even paved. They were found eventually, both dead:(

In this case, better safe then sorry. I thought the empty shelves at the supermarket were kind of over the top, but yet I've never lived where such extreme weather "can" happen. Don't forget those people suffered "Sandy" recently.

Oh Ralphy, you're like my brother that was told by our mom to pack his clothes during the Vanport Flood in Oregon so many years ago. When they got to safety, she was looking for clean clothes for the kids, and all he had in his suitcase was his baseball mitt, and other toys, LOL!!

I love people that love their animals;) What's a bit of poop to scoop. Glad you're all safe a sound;) denise
