Having bored myself to stagnation I decided to look for company on the internet I can relate to. I suddenly decided I really am a senior, get over it self.... and goody goody, I found you folks!

I live in a little cabin at the end of the road on an island in the middle of the inside passage of southeast Alaska with the dog Bullet, the cat Pearl and a few wild critters from time to time. Needless to say, it's quiet out here at the end of winter. I'm trying to remember how I longed for quiet winter days by the time summer was over and everything was finally stocked just a few months ago. Now comes the 'had enough' part when the waiting for spring begins.

I've been substituting at the elementary school part time in winter since my grands started kindergarten and now here come along the great-grands, crazy. During the spring and summer I"m busy getting in the garden, fish, wild greens, berries & meds and earning what money there is to earn. Last summer I cooked in a logging camp on an uninhabited island about 50 water miles from home. I won't do that again. Not only did it about do me in, I fed 25 loggers 24/7 for 4 months straight, I didn't get to plant my garden, gather the wild berries or anything else. Wasn't worth it, I'd rather have the real food than the cash :)

See, I'm bored and I'm yakkin'. Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Hello Lonleynorthwind, welcome to the forum! When we were young, my husband and I did some tent camping in Alaska, love the wildlife and scenery there. Welcome also to Bullet and Pearl, maybe when you have time you can post a photo of your furkids. :welcome:

Bullet & Pearl, they get a little squirrly by winter's end too. Where did you go camping, SeaBreeze? Beautiful up here isn't it. I have a favorite first of spring spot to camp at the site of an old Tlinget villiage about 30 miles by skiff. End of April the place is carpeted with stinger nettles perfect size for picking and huge mounds of fiddleheads along with my favorite medicine Devil's Club. Me Bullet camp out for a few days soon's the sun pops out to enjoy the spirits and fill the cupboards. can't wait!

Hi Lonleynorthwind. I'm in Central Florida. Our summer months down here have me shut up in the house with the AC running. Blazing, humid heat, no rain and the soil so dry & cracked it's like walking on another world. So I suffer cabin fever through that season. I'm glad you found us. Nice to have you here.

Oh I hear you, Lois. I never thought of cabin fever in Fla. but being trapped by heat methinks would be even worse. At least I can don another layer and get out there.
Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Lois, I have the same thing in the heat. I have sun poisoning, but with long sleeves and sun screen I can go outside until mid May, when we turn on the air conditioners, and shut the house up until October. COPD doesn't like heat.

Welcome lonelynorthwind and I hope this site will stop the stagnation process for you!
Lively discussions and interesting people. It should help!:chocolate:
