Hi. I am 54 and I have been semi-retired for 4 years. In other words, I tried to quit my job after 30 years and they said.....why don't you just do a little consulting. So, I work maybe 10 hours a month. I was looking for a forum to join that would help me understand this phase of my life. I'm going through 'the change' and joined a group for that but they are so negative and most of them hate their husbands. I know people need to vent but I have been happily married for 33 years and LOVE my husband and have a great marriage so that group depresses me. I would love to be part of a group that wants to make the most out of life after kids and work. I have one son, he's 27 and very independent. He's not married or dating anyone serious so I'm waiting for that part of my life to start with grand babies. :)

I've done volunteering and got a little burned out so I'm taking a break from that. I'd like to see what everyone else does with their time that makes for a happy, fulfilling day. Hubby still works and loves his job. I am SO blessed but I feel a little adrift with my days.

Thanks for letting the join the group!

Hi Kimwhiz, nice to have you join us! I've been married over 40 years and love my husband too! :)

Hi Kimwhiz,

Do you like animals and ever considered being a foster home for a rescue pet or two?

How about a book club or starting one?

Just some ideas.

Hi! I was part of a rescue here in Dallas. I was a foster for a while then foster coordinator. I also helped the local shelter. I put lots of time into it and loved it until all the drama started to hit. That’s when I decided to take a break. Maybe it’s time to start back. I am part of a book club that meets once a month. I do enjoy that. It’s just everyday is a struggle to get up and do something productive and not sit around and read. I do that and get depressed. I think I’m struggling with motivation.

Hi Kimwhiz,
Welcome! I don't post much but I have enjoyed this forum and I am sure you will too. I'm in Texas too and have cabin fever trying to stay cool this past week!

I'm impressed!

It's common to feel down after retirement or even a cut back in hours. We're not sure what do do and then feel guilty for doing nothing all day after burning out of our usual activities! That was me anyway.

Until you find something new, go easy on the stress to be productive; you're doing what you want to do, after all. Enjoy yourself! :D

Welcome Kimwhiz!

If you just recently retired, take a big breath and give yourself time to adjust. I had a retired fried who (joked) and told me that he was thinking of getting a job so that he would have time to do all the projects he wanted to do. The bad, and good, thing about being retired is that there's always manana if you don't get something done today. THAT is what I love the most about being retired!

You were part of a rescue team then fostered dogs?
How long did you do this? What was the hardest part of doing it?

I adore animals; especially dogs and I’d find it difficult getting close to them and then having to let them go. It’d tear me apart so I have great respect for your work. It must take a lot of loyal commitment and dedication but isn’t that what dogs instinctively give?
