High school basketball player handcuffed after game for ‘trespassing’ in gym

That is absolutely shocking. For heaven's sake - handcuffs on a student who was apparently sitting on the wrong side of a gymnasium? And people wonder why policemen are disrespected.

The incident in Utah is outrageous. However, we can be heartened by the outrage of the school families as well as the larger community, and by the fact that the sheriff's department is investigating the incident.

This officer deserves to be cut from the department because this is nothing short of incompetence. As a law enforcement professional, if he isn't able to defuse a small non-incident that didn't even require his intervention, one can only imagine how he'd respond in an actual crisis.

What the deputy did could've been done differently. But sadly high school sports venues have become a hub for gang activity, personal disputes etc that end in violence so I can see keeping an eye on the stands.

That being said here a town banned opposition fans/schools attending sporting events unless they were on a preapproved list because of at least one incident. The police are trying to be proactive.

Also alot of these sports stadiums, fields, courts etc have become so expensive some schools won't even allow gym class or the public at large on them. The gates are locked unless their is a game or home team is participating. Which is bs because the public paid for them to begin with.

There is nothing this kid did that was provocative in any way. If you are quietly sitting there, and then asked to move; you do have a right to ask why. The kid showed way more maturity than the cop. If the cop's motive was to quell an "incident", cuffing the kid was a stupid thing to do.
