Homicides Increasing?

There are more firearms in the USA, than there are people. Many more. JimB.
So? We have the Army and Marines, armed. We have collectors who just hang them on the wall and never use them. We have police departments with hundreds of them in lockup. I had a .22 for rabbit and squirrel, a 20 gauge for pheasant and trapshoots. A .22 pistol for target shooting and coyotes (easy to carry around the farm) and an old 30-30 for larger game. Not one ever shot a human. But I would, to protect myself.

When you aren't too busy trying to prove a point that doesn't exist, please read that again. MY guns never shot anyone. Actually neither have 98% of the guns in this country, in spite of media hype.

WOW. Talk about having your head buried in the sand. Americans kill each other by the thousands every year. Go back to sleep. JImB.

Everyone seems so antsy these days about going out in public or meeting strangers. Is it because there are more homicides, or are these crimes just getting more publicity. If they are really increasing, what's the reason?
It does seem like everyone is on edge and so close to the breaking point. One little disagreement becomes and altercation and someone gets hurt or killed. I personally believe it's the 5G towers, but people think it's just a conspiracy theory. It's starting to look like Purge every day.

I like this one even better. It's real - from a real police officer giving a real talk on gun safety:
OMG! When he told them to bring out the other gun, even the kids said no don't. LOL That's crazy. No I can't handle a gun because I can't even handle a sharp knife without somehow ending up cutting myself!

And I do believe the "misunderstanding" is deliberate.
Yep I am one of those people who spent a couple of decades carrying a sidearm on duty as a Canadian Forces Military Police officer. Of course I am in favor of no one being armed, and in Canada we are almost at that point in 2023. Looking at the circus in your country, about guns, I am glad to be living here. Have I made my self clear ? JImB.

Oh, yes, Jimmy, you've made yourself perfectly clear in more than one respect. You've made it crystal clear that you don't like America, American laws, or Americans. You never cease to criticize America at every opportunity or to point out how much better you think Canada is.

Its pretty clear to all that you are a wonder in your own mind. You keep on and on about it...

Well, it makes him feel superior. Maybe the only way he can.

Is the case still under investigation or is it finished? I've never heard of evidence being held unless there were appeals pending. If it's done, then I'd get an attorney that deals with this type of matter & have him deal with it.
The case hasn’t yet been litigated, but my attorney told me yesterday that the reason the gun is not being released is because the guy I shot may decide to attempt to sue me.

I'm afraid that crime isn't that low in Canada. Unfortunately, here in Toronto, crime rates are rising.

Just want you all to know that not all Canadians dislike the U.S. and Americans.
I know you don't, Pinks. 🤗

I don't know deb, it seems like the world has gone crazy.
I think this explanation is almost good enough, although I'm not sure crazy is the right word. I would call it emotionally disturbed. And our leadership is being drawn more and more from a pool of the emotionally disturbed. Homicides would logically increase in proportion to the depth of hatred we have for each other. I don't think most Americans like this, but it works in favor of the politicians who fan the flames. Hatred and resentment are an emotional sickness that can be taught and therefore learned. So are bigotry and intolerance. It was worse way in the past, but it is now the worst that I have seen in my life time.

I think we went down a few rabbit trails in this thread. My original question was aimed at why people seem so fearful of others these days. I am trying to sell things locally online and get very little response and those that do want to meet at a designated location (which I found out the hard way, doesn't work), or they want my phone number which, for some reason, indicates to them I am not a spammer or someon out to do them bodily harm.

I found a pup on Craig's List one year ago that I wanted to buy. He was located 200 miles away, and when I tried to set up a time to check him out, the woman became evasive. I asked for her address so I could find her, and she said there would be a $100 deposit. I told her I would need her phone number so I could call to let her know I was on the way, and she told me they accepted money by Zelle, (which is not a way to send money to strangers). I got nervous, and talked to a neighbor who went to work and found pictures of the litter, which had been lifted from another site. Craig's List dropped the ad.

Don't take it personally, there are scammers out there, scamming for a living, and people are rightfully cautious.

No, today we enjoy the lowest homicide rates in human existence. In the very short term in the US there have been some ups and downs since about 1950, but the longer term trend is down.

Long Term Trends in Homicide Rates

I was going to say the same thing. In some countries, homicides are up. In the US they're down by quite a lot.

Also, just want to add, most homicide victims in the US were stabbed, beaten with a blunt object, or strangled to death.

Robbery through scams has become a widespread epidemic and law enforcement does very little about it.
