The Russian Tea Room in New York City suffers as Ukraine invasion escalates

The Russian Tea Room is a 100-year-old New York City icon that has long drawn in locals and tourists alike. In its heyday, the restaurant hosted such luminaries as choreographer George Balanchine, artist Salvador Dali and composer Leonard Bernstein, and it was featured in the movies "Tootsie" and "Manhattan."

It drew crowds who attended concerts at nearby Carnegie Hall, only steps away, or dined there after a Broadway show. But at lunchtime Thursday, the eatery was almost vacant, with a handful of customers sitting at only two of its 30 or so red leather banquettes.

Despite its name, the Russian Tea room isn't Russian at all.

I don't see the problems. The fuel has always been very expensive in Europe. In Canada and the US, it has been very cheap. That is why all the cities here are over crowded with big 4X4 trucks with V8 motors. Now, it's time to "cut the fat" here in North America and join the rest of the world. Maybe it's time to get rid of that big gas guzzler you bought and to start thinking about a nice little 4 cylinder car that cheap on gas and easier to park. For those living in bedroom communities and driving back and forth to work, pretty soon you will be just working to fill your tanks. By the way, you ain't seen nothing yet! Apparently, gas prices are yet scheduled to go even higher! Yes, we can thank those politicians belonging to NATO and a special "no thank you" to "dear" Comrade Putin.

Very nice if drunk straight in a shot glass. None of that "silly" coca-cola mix allowed. That is the Russian way.

Gee, another "tourist rip-off." I guess that if you have never been to the USSR or Russia then you can get fooled. I don't like tourist dives anyway; actually, I never did. I suppose this place is some sort of Hollywood Russia? If I ever make New Your, I'll be sure to skip this place.
