How are you today?

There was nothing on the Clarence shelves at the garden center except for old, dead plants that are annuals and that won't grow here in the cooler weather.

Of course, DD "had" to stop at Aldi because...well...because. I snatched up a package of meatballs that were marked down although the expiration date isn't until the 24th.

Then she insisted that we stop by Dollar Tree. The manager was there, and I asked him about any progress on my application. He said corporate is doing some kind of changeover in their computer systems, slowing down the hiring process and meaning that there will probably be no movement for 4-6 weeks:cry::cry: and that he has no way of telling whether they have done the background check but didn't think they have yet.

I am beyond dismayed. I told him that I have an interview tomorrow at McD's and asked if I should cancel it or keep it. He said keep it, and as soon as he's got the green light from corporate, he'll be in touch. I don't want to work at McD's. If they condescend to hire me, I'll take it because I am determined to have somewhere to go and something to do at least a couple of days a week. One way or another, I mean to have a job by September 1.

It's still a good day. The sun is out. I got out to the garden as soon as the sun was up and did some trimming and deadheading and stuff. The promised rain in the late afternoon/early evening hours for the past two days hasn't happened so I need to go back out and water. All we got was lots of thunder and lightning...sound and fury but nothing else. Drat.
Are both Dollar Tree and McD's non-contract jobs - they just give you shifts when they need you rather than regular shifts? If they are then, perhaps take McD's if they offer and, if Dollar Tree gets in touch, take shifts there too. If Dollar Tree can offer you as many shifts as you are happy with and you like it better there, then just tell McD's you are no longer available.

I assume, if it's no contract and then you are free to work in different places? I am not sure how it works tbh :D

They both schedule employees for when they're needed. Dollar Tree employees are pretty much reliable and show up when scheduled and work extra hours if asked.

There's no way on God's green earth I would or could work two jobs.

McDonald's employees are "scheduled" but aren't usually very reliable and are as likely to blow off a shift as turn up for one...at least that's the way it is here. Also at McD's, you're asked what hours/days you're available, but that doesn't mean a darned thing. They'll schedule employees for shifts at times/days when they've insisted that they absolutely cannot work, then expect the employee to find someone to fill that shift, something that should be the manager's job. And that's just one of the reasons that I don't want to work there. Another one of their favorite things to do is to retaliate by cutting an employee's hours if an employee so much as looks sideways. Ugh.

Add to that, the smelling-like-a-French-fry thing. And the ridiculous uniforms.

They probably won't offer me a job anyway. Seems that people look at me and see a frail old lady. A 98-lb weakling. Actually, I probably weigh 110-120 lbs, and as for "frail," oh, hell to the NO!

If hired at McD's, I will absolutely walk if Dollar Tree calls me.

The search continues.

Satisfied that I got the only room on the main level that needs vacuuming done. I broke down and did it yesterday. Don’t ever buy extra plush carpeting!

Also did some rearranging after 20 years. Moved the clock radio to the other side of the bed and set up my watch recharger on my side. I couldn’t read the clock but now still have it available for daytime when I have my glasses on.
