How are you today?

How am I today? My heel spur is aching something fierce, no surprise after spending several days on my feet prepping for and then hosting the last holiday party. I just slathered it with the topical gel that brings some relief, and will keep my feet up as much as possible today.

The OA in my hands is also acting up. No surprise there either, cookie and pizza making is labor intensive on the fingers and hands. Also slathered those joints and will avoid food prep as much as possible so I don't have to keep washing it off and reapplying.

Other than the above, I'm a happy camper today.

Thanks, @Medusa. The pain has eased now that I'm not standing & walking in the kitchen for ten hours a day. Given that I have a heel spur, it's likely it will bring some level of pain for the rest of my life, but usually it's more an annoyance than any level of debilitation.

Same is true with the osteoarthritis in my knuckles. I spend nearly a month each year abusing my hands while working with cookie dough, and the OA gets pretty cranky. It's settling down now, fortunately.

The over-the-counter diclofenac sodium topical gel (NSAID) seems to help both areas. I couldn't use it while all the baking was going on, of course.

Had 4 year old grandson yesterday - he decided not to spend the night and we don't push him. He'll be back again today when his big cousins (13 & 10) and aunt and uncle (DD & DSIL) are here for lunch and final cookie decorating.

DS & DDIL (parents of the 4 year old and 22 month old) live only 7 miles away, so shuttling the kids between houses isn't a big deal and gives their parents a break. DD is about 15 miles away, so we usually see her family weekly.

After today, I'll pack and freeze nearly all the remaining cookies. Last year we still had some until early summer - and they remained delish!

Im good nothing exciting planned , fireworks were nothing to write home about , they were more big bangs type that only go up a short distance ….in fact didn’t see and skyrockets at all
Hope everyone’s well , as I’m .
Going to to do some serious planning to day for catching public transport to the Gold Coast to go to a afternoon dance , they have high speed rail here in Queensland to make traveling comfortable and quick and its costs us
50 cents to go any distance we want to travel ,if we was to return within 2 hours the trip is free

I must move want to go get a few fresh foods like mangos ( lots of tropical fruit grown in QLD ) and fresh bread from a bakery not a supermarket

Last night I updated my ipad to ios 26. May be tearing my hair out today with some of the changes that were only made for the sake of change. I hate when it takes more steps to do something that was simple.
Trouble i find after updating ,theres heaps of apps need updating as well, ….i recently deleted heaps of unused games apps like card games i no longer use @Jules

That dance floor looks fun. What do they typically show on the screen?
Just to put you in the picture a little ….about that part of Queensland which is called Coolangatta ….

Prior to COVID heaps of south Australian's used to travel to Coolangatta for a month to escape some of the the cruel winter winds we get in South Australia ….. they had lots of dancing / lots of other entertainment at TT .

So getting back to the huge screen…. it’s mainly used to cover the stage area when it’s not in use
with adds / it was used for bingo 3+ times a week ( they had huge crowds turn up for bingo ) boring …. as watching paint dry in my opinion ,but to each his own ….

apprently bingo is now at another club owned by this one ..further south …dancing was three times a week ..but now only once a month ….the clubs went through major changes durning COVID and decided dancers didn’t spend enough money in the club ….most dancers don’t drink anything stronger than water ….😀😀
We are not drinkers at all …I’ve never ever touched it ….but hubs has a odd beer

Anyway they cut the dancing back ….to once a month ….and installed more poker machines …they want $$$ not people who come into the club and don’t spend money …..I suppose you’d call it good management
its all,about the mighty $$$$

Weve got a 8 day trip / flight coming up in Feb ..staying at the resort ( across the road ) still owned by same club
for my birthday ….dancing will be on ….booked to go to a show (John Rowles ) ..at the huge show room that includes
supper

Our accommodation includes a huge buffet breakfast ..so no cooking while away ….yes yes 🙌

@Medusa

Sadly, money does seem to drive pretty much everything (into the ground for most of us).
Your birthday plans sound amaze! :)

Got my bedroom vacuumed (long story) and accomplished a goal... the get the cords managed for all the stuff by my bed (heating pad, Ipad, laptop charger, etc). Re-purposed a rectangular basket with lid... has handle holes on both ends, can have things plugged in without ugly (and add fall risk) cords snaking all over the floor.

Going to redeem a Starbucks gift card after I have lunch and do some yearly planning. I have two goals in next couple months-- one of which is do some major decluttering; some things are hard to get rid of... I have a six inch tall stack of music CDs that I don't listen to, but there it sits on top of the dresser, like it's waiting to put down roots. Oy vey (I would donate to library, but many have scratches)

Sometimes I stumble over a thread that's seen relatively little action, but is deserving of greater attention. With that in mind, I'll point your attention to:
What is it like to live with dementia?

The Teepa Snow videos in @hollydolly's posts are especially well done and informative. Valuable information for past and present caregivers, potential caregivers, and seniors who fear dementia may strike our lives. Presumably those categories include pretty much everyone on SF.

I've sent Teepas' Videos of which there are many to 2 people on this forum in the recent past who are coping within their family with dementia... and they've found them to be extremely useful and informative...

I despise cords running everywhere too! Ugh.

What are you getting at Starbucks? Let me live vicariously. ;)
