How are you today?

Between last October and February, I measured 7 1/2" of rain at our house, but we can have rain till May.
Right now we are in the transition between the lush green winter season and the yellow/brown summer drought.
On my hike this morning, I found that smaller plants are already drying out while trees are still in full bloom.
Wild cacti are just starting to bloom. If we'll get more rain, then the winter green will get a reprieve.

I love your dog pictures, Packleader. And that's a beautiful cactus.

I didn't get up until 8-ish this morning. Poor Maggiecat! She was in danger of dying of starvation.

Nothing in particular on today's agenda, just some tidying-up stuff. After that? Probably just sit around on my dead center.

I grew up in a Polish neighborhood, and the day before Easter my friends would dye their Easter eggs and take them to our parish priest to have them blessed.

My paternal grandmother would make saffron buns. After my ballet class I would walk about two miles over to her house just to get saffron buns.

My maternal grandmother would make little bird nests of colored coconut and fill them with jelly beans. She also gave each of the grandchildren Russell Stover fruit-filled Easter eggs that were covered in dark chololate.

Yum to all of it.

Now I want a fruit-filled Easter egg, some saffron buns and coconut bird nests with jelly beans.

Maybe I'm in my second childhood.

Good morning and Happy Saturday.

A solid night's sleep last night Yay! For most of my life that would have been barely noticed, but with age they've become a lot fewer and farther between.

Yesterday I sliced up 5 of the six pounds of perfectly ripe strawberries I bought Thursday (99¢/lb). Ziplock bagged them and tucked them in the freezer. I was down to about 1/2 cup from last year's bounty so the timing was perfection.

Make it a good day if you can, SFers!

Did you have a big family gathering?
About 30 people — family and friends.

DS always hosts because he's got a big backyard. The Easter bunnies (DH & both DSs) hid 215 eggs for the rest of us to hunt down. Then we had a late lunch of BBQ burgers, hot dogs, brats, and assorted sides and desserts that everyone contributed.

Wow. 215 eggs to find in a huge backyard must have been fun. You guys always go all out during the holidays. I like reading about how you all celebrate. I especially like how everyone contributes. That makes it extra special. @StarSong

Thank you for sharing that with me.
I bet you take lots of pictures as a keepsake.
Yesterday I was talking with a 35 year old friend of my son & DIL. I've known this woman for about seven years. She's been in a committed relationship with a very nice guy for a couple of years now. She mentioned that her mom has been pushing her a bit to have a child, but she's reluctant because of seeing how much work it is for her sister (two kids, age 6 & 4).

I said, "Yes, having children is a labor-intensive slog for about 15 years. But if you do it right, for the rest of your life you'll get to have this." And I swept my arm in a circle to indicate my kids, their kids, and their friends.

She smiled and said, "I never thought of it that way."

DH & I have established our own friendships with our children's friends. Indeed, their close friends have been to my home many times for parties and gatherings and feel comfortable here even when our own children are running late. When DH & I are throwing a party our kids and kids-in-law know they're welcome to invite their friends. Just check with me on the headcount.

It was the same with my mom & my own friends.

No need to tell me how fortunate I am. Believe me, I know it.

We just got back from seeing the APN. We have both had the same backache and other symptoms for several months. We thought it might be a UTI, but it's not. We didn't really get any answers, but we both have bloodwork coming up, so maybe that will tell us something.

I have very little confidence with APN's. They are fine for routine issues like flu, etc. But when something out of the ordinary is going on, I'd rather see my doctor.

This has been an issue for about 6 months. The strange thing is that we both have the EXACT same backache! Time to find out what is going on!

The good news is that my planters fasciitis is (marginally) better! It's a slow process, but it's heading in the right direction.
