How are your feet?

Our feet affect our activities. At least, mine do. I wouldn't normally wear trainers but I'm very glad they are now the fashion, as it makes a huge difference to comfort. Being able to wear canvas shoes with summer clothes takes away the worry of ugly feet on display.. Bunions are inherited and they are on both sides of my family so it was inevitable that I would have them. I have to pad them with cushioning otherwise the pain is crippling. I find bamboo socks are a great help.

Y’know I pretty much neglected my feet for a good portion of my life. While I wanted them to LOOK pretty, the actual health of the nails and feet didn’t even occur to me.

It’s interesting how perspectives change as we age! I still want pretty feet so I get pedicures once a month the in the summer, but I’m also careful to make sure they’re healthy. I had a bout of nail fungus once and I caught it early enough that it didn’t spread. It was only on my big toe. I was on medication for it, topical and oral, and it went away pretty quickly.

I can reach my feet easily so I keep my nails trimmed, take care of any soreness immediately (it’s usually the beginning of an ingrown toe nail,) use a pumice stone in the shower to keep the calluses at bay, and drench my feet with foot lotion before I put on socks every morning.

In the summer when I wear mostly sandals, I moisturize my feet morning and night, and as I said get regular pedicures which takes care of any calluses.

If I could no longer reach my feet I’d get pedicures year round and also visit a podiatrist for any other care.

Trade said this: "Yeah, I have a lot of that. My toenails have gotten so thick that I have to use these industrial strength clippers that I bought off of Amazon and even with them they are really hard to trim."

I use Dremels on my toenails since they are too hard to cut. The Dremel files the nails using a motorized grinder. I use the Dremel after every shower since the warm water in the shower softens the toenails before grinding.
