Y’know I pretty much neglected my feet for a good portion of my life. While I wanted them to LOOK pretty, the actual health of the nails and feet didn’t even occur to me.
It’s interesting how perspectives change as we age! I still want pretty feet so I get pedicures once a month the in the summer, but I’m also careful to make sure they’re healthy. I had a bout of nail fungus once and I caught it early enough that it didn’t spread. It was only on my big toe. I was on medication for it, topical and oral, and it went away pretty quickly.
I can reach my feet easily so I keep my nails trimmed, take care of any soreness immediately (it’s usually the beginning of an ingrown toe nail,) use a pumice stone in the shower to keep the calluses at bay, and drench my feet with foot lotion before I put on socks every morning.
In the summer when I wear mostly sandals, I moisturize my feet morning and night, and as I said get regular pedicures which takes care of any calluses.
If I could no longer reach my feet I’d get pedicures year round and also visit a podiatrist for any other care.
