How come I never heard of those Emmy wining shows?

I watched part of the Emmys. I remember when I actually watched the winning TV shows. As a category came up, I never heard of the wining shows. For 20 minutes, there wasn't one TV show I heard about, never mind actually saw. I don't live in a cave, I'm you're average cable viewer. How come I never heard of those Emmy wining shows?

Outstanding lead actress in a drama series

WINNER: Sarah Snook (Succession)
Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us)
Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale)
Keri Russell (The Diplomat)
Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets)
Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters)
None of these shows were on broadcast TV. It's like the Emmys are the Oscars for paid TV.

The only one on that list I've heard of is The Diplomat. We watched one episode and were intrigued enough to watch the full season. It was pretty good! I suspect that most of the shows are on Paid Streaming channels and we are picky about the ones we sign up for - often dropping one before we pay for another one.

I aint never heard of any of those listed. Probably a thousand more I do not know of.

Fortunately at my age I no longer have any interest in celebrities; especially what they say and the weird clothes they wear. I believe all the hype about "stars" is of interest to young people who are desperately searching for heroes to worship. At my age, there are very few heroes of any sort.

Two nights ago I started to watch "Oppenheimer." It was terrible. The story ran from present to past over and over again. In between there were some weird computer graphics flashing on and off. I gave up after 20 minutes. The next day my girl friend continued the movie for another 1/2 hour. I asked her how it went. She said it was bad. Totally confusing and some strange music on all the time so it was nearly impossible to understand what the actors were "mumbling" about.

Tonight I'll be watching "The Untouchables" with Robert Stack. He doesn't mumbles. I understand each and every word he speaks. Modern actors could do well to watch some of these older movies and TV series.

I have a low tier basic cable channel tier. I don't know what I watch, but it's not much. No streaming or the like. I wouldn't even know how to set those up. If I ever did, i'd have to have cable or a geek squad person come out. I do want to rent Nomadland and The Barbie Movie.

I'm out of the loop too.

I looked at a list of the winning actors/actresses, and never heard of any of them, But then, I seldom follow any TV series....with the exception of Yellowstone.

The Untouchables, one of my favorite shows from the 1950's (1959-1963).

I never watch any of the award shows because the highlights are usually covered on various shows the next day.

We have watched The Last of Us, which is amazing, and Yellowjackets, which is pretty good. They were on HBO and Showtime. I canceled both of those premium channels during the writers/actors strike because I figured no new shows would be coming out for a while. We haven't missed them because there is great content on streaming channels like Prime Plus, Netflix and Hulu.

I had never heard of most of anything on the Emmys
I did start watching the series 'Beef' on Netflix and it is good! Apparently it was nominated and/or won an Emmy.

Succession is worth watching. You’ll hate every member of the show and still want to watch it.

We did not recognize these Emmy Award winners either. But we don't pay for Netflix or anything like that. Frankly, when we have seen ads for them, there is nothing we want to watch on them anyways. We stick to PBS, the Knowledge Network, The Retro Channel and Turner Classic Movies and we watch the local and national news. That's it. I also watch what I want for free on You tube.
