How did you find out about SF/how long have you been a member?

Oct 2017, so six years for me. Was looking for a senior related forum and a search engine brought me here. I lurked for a bit to get the lay of the land and learn the forum's rhythm before becoming active.

A couple of kindly members encouraged me along in the early days. @RadishRose and @PeppermintPatty, I'm looking at you when I say that. ❤️
Are you sure ..Peppermint Patty wasn't here in 2017

25+ years ago when retirement was on the horizon I joined an internet group Soc.Retirement in the belief that I would pick up some useful info about retirement. As I soon discovered, the retirement aspect of the group was fading and it was becoming entirely political. After it died, destroyed by politics, I discovered this group, and I completely support the opposition to politics.

It wouldn't occur to me. I don't expect that to get me anywhere. I never assume an online persona isn't carefully crafted, with wide-ranging motivations I'd probably guess incorrectly.

Might really be a guy or vice versa, some college student role-playing as part of a Psychology or Sociology class, some law enforcement unit casting its nets, rich old bag getting her jollies playing Black Widow Spider, experimental Eliza chatbot, a Nigerian Prince needing help protecting money, etc.

No offense intended and I didn’t assume you’d send such a PM. But there was a thread recently on that topic and your first post here set me up nicely for the pun. Nothing personal.

I ‘ve been here close to 6 years. After being on a UK site for over50 members for a few months, I decided I’m closer to the American way of living, than the UK. Years ago, this wasn’t the case but we moved to Canada in 1965. Canada and America are fairly new compared to the Uk.

This site offered more members in my continent, used more words that I used and I liked that it swayed away from politics.

I don’t frequent many sites. I’m on a saxophone site so I can ask for help if and when needed but this site has some real members, many who are going through similar life experiences as my husband and I.

I’m actually quite fond of many members here. Members who have helped me through some really tough times; offered valuable suggestions in areas I knew nothing about. Some have seen me at my lowest and helped me to recover.

This might sound odd but it wasn’t so much what they said, as the actions they took. I’m still learning from them.

I’ve also gotten fond of members who have passed. When people suddenly leave, I often wonder if they got diagnosed with some fatal condition and decided to end it. I certainly don’t judge.

Hey you! 😊 You are one I’ve learned a lot from when it came to caring for my parents.
That was a tough few years. A lot has changed since then and forgiveness was definitely achievable.
Thanks Starsong ⭐️l 🎶

RadishRose- another quiet fun loving member who always has interesting things to say on the light hearted side. Thank heavens for some classy light hearted stuff.

Some topics are far too heavy for me to engage in so I don’t. It’s that easy. 😛 lol
