How do you decide on an avatar?

It seems that some of you keep one forever while others change it regularly. Tell us how you made your choice....

I tend to alternate between my little owl and a picture my daughter took of me, beside Loch Katrine on one of our adventures.
The owl came from a site, when I Googled 'Avatars' one day.

Okay enough, what goes on behind closed doors between consenting monkeys...:p

My avatar was given to me by a friend from another site. He was artsy techy and I had the screen name Love a Bull. He understood the pit bull reference and created a gentleman Callie.

Mine is one of my goats. The picture is 10 years old. He hasn't changed much. I'd stick with a picture of myself, but the most recent picture I have is about 7 years old now, and I've probably changed a lot, so I hate to use it.

I can remember pictures easier than usernames, and personally enjoy getting to know the people here, as much or more than reading the posts. To do that you have to keep everyone straight. It's hard when there are so many members, so I try not to change avatars often.

My avatar is a picture of a Buddhist temple that's about 20 miles from here. Way of the beaten path and a very serene place.

One of my craft projects, I got tired of switching up photos, so my favorite craft paper flower will remain for now, might switch it up for the holiday season, maybe not.

I guess it is something that you really like or love, identify with, or feel that is appropriate for the forum. Mine is a photo of my Maltese dog, Nicky, taken by the breeder on the day before I went to pick him up. He was 8 weeks old in that photo. She had pics of the whole litter. I will never know how she got them to sit still long enuf for a picture.

I am a medical marijuana cardholder in our state and work in a dispensary. I have seen so many people from 21 to 90 get help for their medical issues. It's something I believe in and am passionate about. How can I not promote it?
