How do you feel?

I wonder if we could compare notes, the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. Just how do you rate your health and wellbeing status? No need to go into reasons as to why you chose either path. Just give the facts of your experience please.

I will kick off by saying I took four vaccinations as offered. I did get covid but it was not serious and I recovered ok. The fourth vaccine made me very poorly. My health and wellbeing now as compared with before the pandemic is very poor. I am tired, prone to infections, slow to recover from even a cold, very depressed, weak physically and with a lot of mysterious aches, pains and joint inflammations. I am in and out of hospital departments , I have had lots of tests and am often very frightened but nothing serious has been found so far.

I am interested in comparison between the vaxxed and unvaxxed. I think we should have an open mind and focus on facts. See if we can get at what's happening to us.

May I say I think those who did not take the vaccines were very brave. But also those of us who did take it were very brave. Both paths were surely risky.

2 vaccine shots and 3 boosters. I did get a mild case of Covid. No aftereffects.

I'm in my 80's and have some chronic health issues, but none of them have anything to do with Covid or the vaccine. Those things had no effect on my health in general, other than mild side effects. But I feel very protected from getting seriously ill from Covid if I should ever get it again.

I had Covid early in the thing - April 2020. I was very lucky to survive - most in my unit in hospital did not.

I've had every vaccine jab offered - 5 now I think. Every one has wiped me out for 2 or 3 days and I'll have as many as they offer!

I've had every vaccine that has become available for Covid and never had a negative reaction to any of them I've scarcely been sick at all for three years because of the isolation and have never tested positive for Covid. But my vitality is much reduced because giving up going to the gym.

Up until early spring 2020, I took at least three Pilates classes/week along with a weights circuit and 50 minutes on a stationary bike. I was so strong when I got my knee replaced that November that I never needed a walker or support of any kind. My stamina and strength were so much fun and I miss those now. No more sailing up steep hills now I pace myself and getting up off the floor is difficult. But we stopped going to avoid infection.

If it were just myself, I'd be leaning hard into my immunity but my wife is immune compromised and owing to bad kidneys could not take Paxlovid if she became infected. So, as her most likely vector, I always mask in doors and have a surgical mask around my neck at all times outdoors which I can pull up into place if some a**hole gets up in my face outside. We still take walks every day but with masks always at the ready. We've been to a couple of art galleries but at non-peak hours and masked of course. We shop together the same way. It's a bummer but necessary.

I only had one vaccine and one booster. When I was younger I couldn’t have small pox and other vaccines due to being severely allergic to the preservative which was used. Since I’m not around a lot of people I’m not too worried about it. I never got Covid but did get a cold that last a good 2 weeks. It was my first cold in about 7 or 8 years.

I’ve got autoimmune disease and have other negative impacts on my health which makes it impossible for me to determine where the weaknesses in my health comes from.

I believe I caught covid in Jan. 2020 before the world came down with it. There was no testing so I cannot be sure. I had a flu like virus for three weeks and felt very tired. I did not work but was able to cook and take care of myself. No shopping though. I let my family do that for me. I lost my sense of taste for five days then it came back. I haven't had any other after effects. The loss of taste is what makes me believe it may have been covid because so many confirmed cases reported the same thing. The majority of my family members have been vaccinated as many had to for work. Some of us who didn't opted not to get vaccinated. So far three of my family members have rectal bleeding issues one is precancerous. Otherwise everyone is OK.

Rose, what help are doctors offering you if any?

We've had 4 Covid shots, and both of us had minor after-effects (slight sore arm for a couple of days).
Our health has been excellent these past 3 yrs. No colds/flu or any other health issues.
Same here. Both of us are fully vaccinated and boosted. Had very mild effects from the shots, like sore arm. Have been healthy all along, never had covid, but if we did we likely would never have had to go to the hospital for treatment. Still doing fine, we will both get the next available booster in the future, makes sense for folks our age especially. Life is good, glad we had an available vaccine during a deadly worldwide pandemic.

Yours is a case that is sobering because it reminds us what did happen before vaccines were available. So many died. Thank God you survived and are well now.

Reading most of the replies, I'm wondering if my problems are due mainly to lockdowns. That isolation has affected my resistance to everyday levels of circulating germs. Also the depression and stress of it all has lowered me - that is a really powerful thing. We have all been subjected to fear, panic and changes. Not all of us have been able to cope.
I am grateful for protection from covid .

Have so far had 2 Astra Zeneca shots, then 2 Pfizer boosters. I'm due for another flu/covid jab any time soon. I did test positive for Covid when Hubby was in hospital - I got it from him and the whole ward and their visitors were infected.

As soon as I tested positive I rang my doctor and the next day Paxlovid was delivered to my door. I did not feel at all sick and wondered whether I had thrown a false positive, so I self tested again and also at the covid testing station for the more sensitive test. I was definitely positive but was just about symptomless.

I now self test every day that I visit Hubby in the nursing home, which is 5 days per week at the minimum. Fortunately I can get packs of 10 RATs free at the NSW government service centres.

PS Hubby has had his fifth jab and although Covid is working its way through the nursing home, he has not tested positive. This is an excellent outcome because I am now taking him out to various social venues at least once a week where people are not masked and their vaccination status is unknown. Also, although residents have contracted the virus, none of them have died. Vaccination is valuable.

Here’s more information for those with autoimmune disease which wasn’t available before.

Actually I’ve just been reminded that I had 3 shots. I’m behind one or possibly two but I’m not too worried about dying however I still wouldn’t want to be a carrier and spread it to others. While I’m somewhat self centred I’m not without empathy for others.

I'm very sorry to hear this Rose65. I had 3 total covid shots. The first 2 (very early) and then the 1 booster. All required to keep my job or I don't know if I would have got them. I finally got covid last November after repeated exposures. I felt rather lousy only 2 days. Kind of like a cold/flu combo but wasn't the worst I've felt. I don't know if the stroke in one eye was related to that last booster but I'm suspicious. I don't want one again. Masks are not even required at work anymore. I think if another booster was ever required, that would be time to quit. I don't think that will be happening.

No other long term issues noted. That I'm aware of.

You said you had Covid. You may be suffering from the effects of Long Covid. I only had the two initial shots and one booster but I had something last Christmas that left me with a cough for two months. I'm pretty sure it was Covid because I was exposed to it by my grandchildren. My symptoms now are similar to yours. Hopefully, it will burn itself out eventually.

None of us are medical doctors, who have intimate knowledge of Rose65's health, so all this is speculation. Yet, thinking an event in one's life is the cause of an illness is common. "It was George's passing that caused me to start having problems." Of course, being 92 at the time, might have more to do with it. We tend to associate events with the onset and cause of illnesses, which may not be accurate.
