How Do You Manage Chores & Internet Time?

I've read that many of my online friends say they spend too much time social networking which leads to sometimes neglecting their chores. I certainly can relate to that. It also doesn't help that I have ADD. Traits are getting distracted very easily, being disorganized and abhorring mundane tasks. Not helpful when trying to get work done. I find that I do better when I make lists and also when I play "Beat the Clock" and try to see how quickly (yet well) I can get certain chores done.

When my son was a teenager, I made a chore schedule. We did 15 to 20 minutes a day, each day and it seemed so effortless when we followed the schedule. I should probably make one for myself now that I live alone. How do you manage...do you do one room at a time or one kind of chore at a time (eg: vacuuming the whole house, then dusting, etc.)? Do you do them on specific days or a little each day? Do you designate certain times to get on the computer. Sometimes I have to "punish" myself and not get on until I've gotten some work done.

Great thread, OneEyed!

I go through spurts and spells, where some days are better than others as far as me applying myself. I tend to make time for pressing things, things I know cannot be put off, but when it comes to other chores and such that hold no real importance or significance as far me having to get them done, then I find it's easy for me to put those things off (temporarily) if I become overly wrapped up with my internet time.

One thing I avoid doing, is being too hard on myself when days go by where I get little to nothing done, because I'm dedicated when it comes to running a tight ship, so if days come and go where I spend a little more time chatting with others on this forum or pulling up dreamy garden pictures and such, then so be it, I'm good with it, because those days are few and far between for me.

Did find I spent a lot more time online (here) over the course of summer, because due to the extended and relentless heat-wave that most everybody was under this year, working outside and doing the things I love, was pretty much dampened, otherwise I would have made more of an effort to balance my time and schedule.

One thing I can feel brewing in the background of my mind, is last minute cleaning and organizing before the holiday season hits. I still have a few pieces of furniture to move, dust and vacuum under, along with a few other miscellaneous this and that's to tackle before I can relax, and knowing that I want all done and out of the way within the next few weeks, will make it easier for me to step away and see to those chores and duties, but aside from that, winter time (for me) is my time to sit-back, kick-back, and adopt a Doctor Dolittle style of living, for wintertime for me is a season of rest. :)

Yea, a real kick in the head (that means excellent, worth remembering phrases)
coupled with an 'What me worry' attitude results in environment something like
the 'Hoarder Homes' we see on TV.

I could do better at balancing my chores with my internet time, ..... but by golly I enjoy it here and so many of life's little pleasures have been taken off the table that being here is a bit like having some good ice cream

I do get all my regular chores done, the things that suffer are my long term projects like getting rid of things that I am not using anymore.

I have no problem getting all my chores done....I actually spend the vast majority of my time online at night... with occasional forays on during the day if I'm twiddling my thumbs for something to do..

I don't do social media.. so really this forum and occasionally one other are where I spend most of my internet time

I am a creature of habit....routine....organizing....planning.
I get up, have my first cup of coffee.....feed everyone, and out for their jobs.
Then on here for good morning and go through post, do some posting.
Then 2nd cup of coffee, back on here for a few.....then my daily morning cleaning chores....and pick something from my list of things extra to do.
Check off and on here.
Lunch......check in for a bit after that.
Check in before supper.....and on after the guys go out for bedtime jobs.
Have never been online for hours at a time, do tend to break it up in shorter sessions, unless on 1-2-1 chatting with someone or facetime.
I do consider myself well disciplined.......but not perfect......there are times i slip.
Winter, i spend more time online.
I do like getting all my chores done first..... feel better doing so......then happy time.
ARE YOU BORED YET.......Ha HA HA

I consider myself imperfect and not disciplined. I suppose it’s all about when you look into the mirror, who looks back. 😂. And yet, I am who I am, whatever that means. 🤯

How Do You Manage Chores & Internet Time?

Chores get done when needed
(here, in town, there just ain't that many)
Projects get done when I want
Internet takes up as much time as I care to devote

Hey
I'm retired
I refuse to schedule myself

Time; was somewhere in the past

Now; is exactly what I want to do right now
(never considered 'now' as being 'right now', until just now....heh, it's never been so right)

Tomorrow? I'll letcha know when I know

I have a schedule and I stick to it. I still do fall and spring cleaning, I spend 4 to 5 hours every Thursday doing weekly cleaning. A day is set aside for shopping and one for changing beds, I wash on Saturday.
During my schedule I stop a few times and check my laptop. In the afternoon I have my coffee when I check in again as well as just before bed. I need the frequent breaks to rest my achy knees and checking the laptop makes it enjoyable.

I actually have a schedule as well, and I follow it reasonably well. Daily chores (clean out the dishwasher every morning and clean up after breakfast, use the leaf blower on the patio, etc), wash sheets on Thursdays, vacuum every Friday and help my wife with our weekly cleanup, wash dark cloths when the basket gets full. Overall, I have a good deal going here and I know it, even on those days when it is my turn to scrub the toilets.

I worked for a lot of years and always to someone else's schedule and timetable and of course I wore a wristwatch
When I was younger I held down a part-time job and raised a family and I was 'Chief Cook and Bottle Washer'
Since retiring I am on no-one's schedule or timetable and I no longer wear a wristwatch
I have yet to meet any 'Housework Police' to tell me any of my chores are not finished
What does not get done today will wait till tomorrow or the next day
No such thing as Internet when I first started working but I am making up for it now....and enjoying it :giggle:

My social networking time is mainly in the late morning (9-ish) over a couple of cups of coffee. Then I like to get outside and enjoy the day. Chores? Schedules? I take each day as it comes in my retirement. Sometimes after I've had a good nights sleep I wake up feeling alert and motivated and get everything done that I want to do, including craft projects. Then in the evening after feeding the dogs and feeding myself, I check my email and Craigslist and Facebook.
