How Far Can a Woman Go to Defend Herself?

Back when I was still having such problems, an officer told me if I had to shoot anyone, be sure they were dead and drag them into the house if they were outside.

Get the wasp spray. 20 foot range and it doesn't blow back on you. Aim for the eyes.
Where do you get this wasp spray?

In the hope that he won't hurt you?
You have keys? Fingernails? Straight to the eyes, Babe.

If not, and you can't get to his crotch, super hard kick to the knee, front or side is effective. Also, throat/windpipe is vulnerable, but you'd have to punch or chop pretty hard (which I'd worry I couldn't do effectively so probably would go for easier targets.)

I don't carry a knife or pistol either because I don't know how to use either and would likely hurt myself or get hurt. But I do have weapons.
An elbow to the face is highly effective in close quarters.
Cool, if you don't mind the rape that so often goes along with it. Yes, even grannies.
Ladies, all this sounds good in theory. I don't carry cash or credit cards in my purse, so for me to physically attack a perpetrator who was attempting to steal my purse would be foolish and would most likely do me more harm than good. He can have my lipstick, compact, tissues, and hand sanitizer. However, if he tried to abduct or rape me, that would be a different story. In that case, I would physically fight him to the best of my ability.

Most men know them too. As for me, I no longer have the strength I once did, I can't even scream as loudly as I once could and I certainly can't run.
Very true, @Pepper ... if someone means to do harm, I think he probably knows the things a victim would try and pre-empt those things. I have always worried for women who have nothing but self defense moves and think that's all it will take. Unless you can physically overtake a man with those moves, I'm afraid it may be false bravery thinking you're prepared for an attack.

I agree with you, @Bella, if he's just pulling at your purse, on the run-like, and it's obvious he only wants that and is trying to run off with it, and will if you let go, then there's no sense in you risking your safety for the contents of your purse.

But, we are agreed as well on what happens when a man so much as touches you, your person, I think. ♥

Respectfully, I disagree. I think a lot of what happens to women happens because of presumption and intimidation. Always fight back and never, ever let a perpetrator take you anywhere.

Well it is better to have some self defense techniques than nothing at all. Knowing greatly a marshall art would be even better. Women aren't helpless.

Yeah, @Medusa, but you're in your fifties, not your seventies. When I was young I could fight like an insane mad dog, but am now just a mere shadow of my former outrageous self. What I do for safety is to really know my surroundings and who/where everyone is. I stay very alert, and growing up in NYC always was.

I see your point, @Pepper and I think that's wise. ♥

?? Yes, always fight back. My point was that it's good to have that mace (or wasp spray, whatever) as well as thinking taking a few self defense classes is all that's needed. It's not enough. Nothing about intimidation.... I'm just going to gouge the sucker's eyes out if the mace doesn't work... and not think that I can flip him to the ground with some self defense move and he'll run away crying. @Medusa

My bad, @CallMeKate. I misunderstood you.

I tell women all the time, if they are outside, say at the gas pumps and a man grabs them and begins pulling them towards his car to “never” get in the car under any circumstances. If they get in the car, they most likely will be killed.
Absolutely true...
