How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Saturday, May 10th. Happy almost Mother's Day! Had the family crew over yesterday after school/work. Always a joy to spend time with them.

Our 3 year old grandson may come today - if not today, tomorrow. It's gonna be plenty hot, plus we don't go to restaurants places likely to be crowded on holiday weekends, so today and tomorrow should be low-key. ❤️ ❤️

How much do you pay for fruit... for example I bought these today...

6 small apples cost 0.69p in Tesco... a Punnet of seedless cotton candy grapes ( 1/2 kilo= about a pound) £2.70...
a Whole Watermelon £4.00....
6 Bananas =75p.... and a a bag of satsumas ( 10) ...£2.00
Last week I paid $1.34 for one apple needed for a recipe.
Cotton Candy grapes are $12 to $14/lb
Watermelon - so pricey, that I haven’t bought a whole one in years and only in the peak season.
3 bananas were 75 cents.
Yesterday I bought:
Large apples: 69¢/lb (small apples cost less)
Red seedless grapes: $2.00/lb (didn't have cotton candy grapes)
Bananas: 49¢/lb
Russet potatoes: $1.49/10 lb bag
Strawberries: $1.50/lb package
Mangoes: 69¢ each
Lettuces (Romaine, red leaf, green leaf): 79¢/large head

I don't love watermelon - usually only it mid July at peak season - so I didn't notice them or their price yesterday. They tend to run 25¢/lb or less at peak season.

This morning was unusual. Our rooster was not crowing. We went and checked where they sleep and found a bunch of feathers. It looks like a critter of some sort killed him. The 5 hens we have are scattered all about. They were free ranging up to 300 yards from their "home". Even the goats are acting cautious this morning. It looked like a big fight because the ground is messed up in several places.

Things will be different now. It is very quiet without the rooster. :(
I am so sorry! Will you get a new alarm clock?

so it sounds like your prices are similar to ours, but Canadian prices are astronomical...

I've not long finished painting 9 panels of fence. I hate that job, seriously, but I have to do it because there's no-one else to do it..

I still have to put all the pots and the bird bath back into the border.. but that can wait.. my back is killing me....

In general, If you have an accident or a serious condition that requires immediate treatment, you will get it. The problems arise when you have a condition that does not seriously impact your day to day life. With an under-resourced health system, you have to wait and wait and be aware that your treatment could be cancelled at the last minute. Little wonder that people with private health insurance or sufficient money, will go to a private clinic. Once there, they might find that their surgeon works part time for the NHS and part for the clinic.

Having had to wait for 6 months to have my hernia repaired, the surgeon said that she would have done it privately without any waiting. I didn't ask how much, but at that time, the average was around £1200.

In Scotland, breast screening is routinely offered to all women aged between 50 and 70. You’ll be invited for screening every 3 years.
The average uptake is about 76% - much higher in affluent areas and lower in deprived areas.
breast screening here is offered every 2 years... and as for coping with children on the NHS...not a problem, children come first before anyone...

Apparently the earthquake (I think they said 4.1 on the Reichter scale) in E Tennessee was felt by my daughter in N Georgia

Only lasted a few seconds (less than 10) but when you’ve never experienced anything like that it is a bit unnerving. Her comment was “I’ve been through a life-changing hurricane and now an earthquake.. where do I get off this ride?”!ol

Hmm. I can't think of anywhere but Aldi who has to hold a ransom on a shopping cart. But where I buy most groceries lately there aren't even self-checkouts yet.
it's not a ransom... it's to ensure people take the cart ( trolley) back to the trolley station and not leave them abandoned all over the car park. The money is refunded...

Yeah right! :ROFLMAO:

Well I haven't seen the problem of abandoned carts lately. Maybe those sluggards are the ones who buy online and then pull in to pick up now?
it's true, compared to 10 or 15 years ago... there's just no carts in the car park.... people do take the cart back. The fact it cost a Pound makes a difference ( say a dollar) if it was just 20 pence they might still not be bothered to walk back to the Coral with it...

Basically for another week or so will be taking it easy at home to continue slowly recover from surgery 9 days ago. Will make a supermarket visit tomorrow driving for first time.

Been on this cheap laptop all morning. Well its Saturday so can watch some sports on TV. Haven't watched any tv all week. The NY Boston NBA playoff just started at 12;30pm PDT. At 4pm is an SF <> Minn MLB game. And at 5:30pm on radio a Warriors <> Timerwolves NBA game.

Just mic'd a whole box of Kraft Mac & Cheese so will go down stairs and watch some of the NY <> Boston game.

I'm tired. We're back from Bathfest.
GD won third place with her chicken! Yay! 🐔
They also have a fashion show for the chicken and rabbits with the owner dressing up along with theirs.
We saw all kinds of great costumes. Everyone got a ribbon for that.
We'll rest and next week all three grands will come here for a few days. SIL has a business trip. My daughter can rest and relax.

How sad!
