Fun times for you coming up. NOT! I save those kind of projects for summer for those very reasons. Surely they won't have to cut off power to the entire house? Just for the area where they're working, I hope??? If it's a utility room, is plumbing involved? Risk of water lines freezing?
yes I hope that they will only cut off the power to where they're working.. please god.... and yes there's a lot of plumbing and electricity involved being as it's a new Utility room....

I checked with them today if they are definitely coming tomorrow, and they are.. I hadn't heard anything for over a week...

The issue is that they were supposed to have done it last September/october time, but I was still recovering from the car crash, so it had to be put back.. and this is the only time they could fit it in...

Today despite having heavy snow yesterday... the snow had melted because during the night we had a lot of rain. This morning was glorious sunshine.. so I had to take advantage of that and go grocery shopping....I was so warm in the car coming back I had to turn off the heating off.. I didn't even have a coat on just a padded bodywarmer

I dropped off some donations, and also took some things to the recycle centre. All the men were just standing arund doing nothing at all bar one guy who was sweeping up.... I rarely see any of these people do any actual physical work

Unfortunately snow is forecast again for tomorrow.... while the builders are here...

I kept thinking it's an odd day for them to start ..a Thursday... but in a way I'm glad it is because they'll probably just be here for 2 days then I'll get the weekend break.. before they start again on Monday...

Anyway, fingers crossed it all goes to plan....

It's dark now, and the temps have dropped considerably since this mornings' sun.... its 0 deg c now...

I took the bandage off my leg today, where I'd had the carcinoma cut out of my leg...

I wasn't prepared for the shock of seeing the size of the literal hole in my calf..I nearly threw up. It's big and it's very deep..I can see all the layers of my leg in the hole which is about an an inch and half in diameter.. and probably a 1/2 inch deep.. jeez ! I could thow up just talking about it...

I hope you have meds and new bandages since a hole that size should not be left uncovered.

forgive me for not sounding aghast, but I have stopped punctured arteries on horses and covered many a hole from Barbwire fence gouges, and lord knows what else. I have a floor-to-ceiling medicine cabinet full of horse and dog stuff.

It is sort of old hat to me, but I don’t take those kinds of injuries for granted believe me. You do not want to get infection in there and perhaps have it develop sepsis.

No meds but yes I was given surgical dressings... ! It's in a really difficult place for me to reach as well...

I mean it's so gross I keep thinking I should be putting some kind of cream on it.. but I wasn't told to......however it does still sting quite a bit..

On friday it will be my Silver wedding aniversary.. or it would have been if I hadn't have got divorced a few months ago.... but the 9th is the date in december when I had this procedure done.. so exactly a month before my 25th wedding anniversary

Try your very best to get the hole dressed with the surgical bandages.

You may want to call the Center that did the surgery and reiterate to them that you have a hole in your leg. Ask if is there some sort of topical and/or oral medication that you could be taking?

I would not just let that go. I know how independent and self-sufficient you are, but even I would not let this go without a phone call😇

Good thinking I'll ring them tomorow... but in the meantime I do have a clean dressing on it...

@hollydolly, that sounds strange to me. As I said, the hubs had many MOHS surgeries. They were all done in such a way that there was always a flap cut or made of skin to cover the wound and then stitched close.

He had one on the side of his nose where they had to insert a bubble thing. That was increased in size so extra skin would grow over it make a flap for covering the excision.

Call the Doc......

The surgery is going to take a while to heal. You will be going through a lot of sterile, bandages and wrap.

Are you familiar with Vet wrap. It is a stretchable/breathable cohesive wrap that goes around the sterile pads to keep them on very easy to fix.

This link is to buy them in the United States but I know they are somewhere in the UK as well. You can also buy individually wrapped sterile pads and probably get it all a lot cheaper in a farm or Vet Catalogue than if you have to buy them OTC in your drugstore. unless of course, the facility that did the surgery provides everything to you free of charge, which I have my doubts about that.

Anyway, here is the link to where I buy them in the United States for the cheapest price. I doubt that you could get them to you soon enough, but as I commented, I know darn well with the huge horse population the UK has, you have to have a Farm or Vet Catalogue that will sell them as cheap.

The Vet wrap is actually very comfortable, and it would be very easy to put it over top of a sterile pad and then wrap it around to where you could tape it or tie it from the top of your leg instead of standing on your head trying to tie it on the bottom🤠

yes very familiar with the cohesive wrap... you're right I will have to buy them I wont get them from anywhere for free... however I do have some sterile pads which were given to me in a bag load when I was discharged from the hospital after I had the surgery on my hand and arm ... so I still have those.

The follow up nurse who took my stitches out .. was very generous and gave me 2 sterile pads

I've just ordered some self adhesive wrap.... hopefully that will be here tomorrow...thank for the tip Imogene 🥰

I wish it was as easy as that..''call the doc'' unfortunately it isn't in this country... however I am beginning to get a little concerned that i's not normal. It doesn't look infected per se.... but the skin all around it is torn like paper when it's been burnt..all the surrunding skin is like it's been burnt... ... and it does sting like the devil.. and like I say it's a genuine hole in my leg where I can see right inside the flesh of my calf... no skin covering at all...

This would have to happen when the builders are going to be here all day every weekday////when I can't leave them alone in the house... to go to an appointment

Are you able to very carefully put hemorrhoid OINTMENT on the tissue around the edges of the hole?

It will help take the sting out, reduce swelling, and perhaps even help heal it. But you would have to be careful to not get it inside the hole, even though that shouldn’t hurt it because hemorrhoid ointment is for internal use, just not that type of internal use.

I buy more hemorrhoid ointment than any 10 people and I don’t have hemorrhoids lol lol you would be surprised what I use that stuff for not only on myself but on my horses.

You are probably going to be up and down more than you want with the contractors there, so you have to keep that covered to avoid any sort of dust or dirt getting into it

@hollydolly can you go to an emergency room or clinic? I think you should take care of your leg and I hate to say, but could you tell your workers to wait to do the work until you are better?

Best wishes to you and hope your leg heals. 🤗

yes I could Rae...If I go the emergency room it will have to be at the weekend... and it will mean waiting in a crowded hospital for many hours.. but really and truly I can't put the builders off now.. they literally are coming at 8am in the morning.. and it's now almost 10pm....

Holly ,,, that does sound ugly to look at.
Is it healing enough to go with out covering it up?
No SF... I tried not covering it for one night , and wearing pyjama bottoms to let it air a little bit but the stinging kept me awake..it hurts much more when it's not covered

Does anyone think I should put vaseline on it?..I've been googling and all the medical websites say to keep it moist not to let it dry out... and to do that use Vaseline

I do have some H cream here..I could try but I think I'll not do that until I speak to a medic.. it would probably be ok as you say but best to play safe...

I just wish I could get the stinging to stop.. it seems to have worsened in the last few days
Have you tried putting an ice pack or even a bag of frozen vegies on it for a short time? Sometimes changing the temp of a sore area on your skin will offer some temporary relief. Have you taken Tylenol or other pain relief pills? Those can take the edge off the stinging.

That could also be a sign of healing. Remember when you have had stitches or a bad cut. It always will sting, burn and itch when it starts to heal. I always thought it was because the new skin was trying to grow in but there was still pulling on the wound.

My Csection scar about drove me crazy for months while healing.

yes it could also be that..it's just puzzling to me why it's hurting more now.. a month later, than it did in the first couple of weeks

No I haven't put an ice pack on it, because it's an open wound.. and I took painkillers for the first time last night for it... because it was just so painful I couldn't think straight, but generally I don't take PK's unless I absolutely have to...

We heal slower as we age. My doctor always is concerned about scratches on my arms. They had happened weeks before from the dogs. Our skin is just thinner so the marks stay a long time.

yes I've heard this but my skin is not thin...really ... , so much so they can never find a vein in my arm when they want to take blood... but I get your point....

Look how fast I healed from the Car crash...I had plastic surgery on my hand and arm.. there's only a 2 inch scar to be seen on the back of my hand... and the stitches in my palm can't be seen at all if you don't know they're there...and that was only 6 months this coming Saturday

I still feel pain from my ribs when I lie down.. but nothing like the agony for the first 2 months.. where I couldn't le down at all..

At age 70..the nurses who came to my home a couple of times a week to change the dressings were astonished at how well I was healing given my age...

I didn't realize it was still an open wound so yes, no ice pack. I try not to take the pills either but sometimes you just gotta for some relief.
I've been nursing a pretty large wound on my lower right leg myself for almost 2 months now so I can relate 😟
