I didn't realize it was still an open wound so yes, no ice pack. I try not to take the pills either but sometimes you just gotta for some relief.
I've been nursing a pretty large wound on my lower right leg myself for almost 2 months now so I can relate 😟
Oh no... what's caused your injury ?:(

Took a header down some wooden stairs. My right leg received a huge blood blister when it hit something (skin doesn't break but blood vessels below the skin break and bleed under the skin).
The Doc won't lance it to let the blood out due to high risk of infection. There's a protocol they follow to let the skin die and the blood dry up then they pull that stuff off and start dressing the wound underneath. It's getting much better now that it's been dressed every 3 days for about 3 weeks. Probably a week or two to go still.
Nasty stuff!

Well it's just after 10am... I've had many people through my kitchen this morning. Builders, contractors, Electrician.. Planner, Designer . ... and the Gas man.......9 men in High Viz jackets ..... in total

I can see now why it's going to take 3 weeks to do..

They were all here for just under 2 hours, measuring ( again )... explaining what they're going to do and how.. and hunting for hidden wiring... then they left.. and apparently will not be back until Monday.

Then the gas man came and capped off some gas pipes somewhere ... then he left..

I'm told someone else will be here in an hour or 2.. I don't know what he's going to be doing, but I'm told he doesn't speak English *Joy*

Then tomorrow someone is coming to check for any asbestos.. ...I know there's none but they have to officially check..

Not head first ?..OMG... what a shock that must have been.

Well it's just after mid-day.... 3 more arrived about 15 minutes ago,... armed with brooms and buckets... 2 out of the 3 can speak no Englsh.. (Orientals) The very first thing they asked before the did any work was could they heat their lunch in my microwave ..and proceeded to do so.. and are now down there eating.. from their packed lunch boxes.. and my whole house now smells of oriental spices..

So thus far..I've had 2 Turkish, 2 Orientals, I Italian.... and several Brits..it's like the United nations in here today... :D

I worked in surgical and trauma ICU for 7 years, treated many wounds as you have described. That wound will heal from the bottom up, inside to outside. New tissue will grow and fill in that hole. Do NOT put any kind of salve or ointment on it! We did what was called a wet to dry dressing, where we would moisten the gauze with sterile saline, gently fill the hole with it, then cover with a dry dressing. Usually two to three times/day. Perhaps there is a different method now? IDK. I am surprised you were not instructed on how to do this.

The skin around it that looks like it was burned may have been exactly that. They may have cauterized it. The "bed" of the wound should be pink and moist, though.

It should not be more painful now. That is a concern. It would be good if you can get ahold of someone involved who can instruct you on wound care and take a look at it.

Morning all, on early walk at 6: 50, temp was 37 as I strolled around the building once before breakfast. For a change not wearing boots since the snow has melted
My plans today, friend, Mary picking me up at 9:30 our 1st 'road trip' of 2026, going to Target
The rest of my day read today's NYT,my book
Tonight at 5:30 having dinner with the guys,Bob ,Jim&Gene in dining room, I called in the reservation 4 days ago We always make a toast to our friend, Connie who sadly is no longer living here at Gates, she's at the other Canterbury Woods in Williamsville. She's now in skilled living section, going downhill rapidly
Every body have a good day

@hollydolly
I do not envy you, having all those workmen coming and going. Your life will be a mess for a while but how nice it will be to have that new utility room. The only drawback is that it will make the other rooms in the house look not-so-good in comparison, lol. Pandora's Box.

yes that's the problem..lol..

...they're beavering away currently banging and hammering and crashing ....they've just broken my kitchen door. I have a half glass door, and they put a tool box behind it , then opened the door wide and the pressure split the frame of the door and pulled the bottom hinge out. I've just called the boss and he's coming around to have a look at it.. *sigh*

I've just taken delivery of the Cohesive wrap... I put a new dressing on this morning......thanks for all that helpful info. I tried calling the dermatology unit at the hospital, but they say that if I have queries about it to contact my GP.. well it'll be quicker if I got to A&E at the weekend ...

I may have over done my activities yesterday, I'm not feeling very good at all. Mostly, I'm tired and slothful....definitely sick.

We put away all of the outdoor Christmas decorations yesterday while the weather was still nice. It did rain a bit over night but most of it missed us. It's warm, but very dreary out there, and I'm glad I'm staying home today.

Today's goal: EXIST! As my friend in Scotland would say, I'm planning on "doing bugger all!!!"

I don't really have much appetite, but I guess I should start making breakfast. Have a good day everyone!

Good morning everyone. It is foggy outside but the sun will come out later and it will be 78 degrees.

@hollydolly It sounds like the workers are really tearing the place to redo as a noisy project. I had my roof replaced about 10 years ago and it was horrible with the noise. My cat at the time was scared by the noise.

With all the different nationalities working, it must make it hard to understand them.

It will be a good thing if things go well and it is finished to your satisfaction.

Stay well and take care of your leg. 🤗

Everyone on the forum, stay well and have a good day.:)

This is why I closely watch workers. If they don't seem to like that, I tell them it helps me learn to watch. Take the "you know so much more than little ole me" approach. Which oftentimes is true, lol. What a PITA!

Edited to add: My Mom used to say, "I'm just a simple peasant girl.....with a mind like a steel trap."

The Boss came and had a look at the door, and he said he'll get a carpenter to fix it. The boss bw just to add to the world nation mix in my house today , is Bangladeshi.... :D
