@hollydolly Believe me, ineptitude and incompetence aren't confined to the UK. What would really gall me is that they threatened you with a charge if you weren't available when they arrive but certainly didn't offer you any concession for their incompetence

Boredom is one of the reasons why I still go to work, although my work is not exactly nine to five, it's more now and then, when needs must. Today my services at work were not required, still up early though, come six am and I can't sleep, no point staying in bed.

My lady had a check up appointment this morning. Her heartbeat is getting into the correct rhythm, that is, more beats per minute than previously. Her check ups are essential. Whilst she was out I managed to vacuum most of the place before her return. Got it finished whilst she enjoyed a hot drink and a slice of apple pie.

At present my wife is busy in her cabin, I know that there's a pair of summer white trousers in the pipeline. To give her more time I told her that I would be making her a cottage pie this evening. It's a favourite of her's, so much so that I make enough for four and we have the leftovers tomorrow.

The courier company text me with the driver's estimated arrival time, he would be bringing my new blazer. And on time it arrived.

Preparing the evening meal kept me busy most of the afternoon, then I had a series of phone calls. My landline phone can be silent for days and then for some unexplained reason, every now and then, it seems to ring off the hook. One of those calls was a Big Band dance in March, I shall have to see how the lady fares before considering that.

Work rang, I shall be going in on Thursday, they want me in at nine. Later work called again about company insurance. The insurers have no objection to my age as long as I am cleared by a doctor, something that I do every year. I have a check up booked for March 17th.

My lady gave me Brownie points for the cottage pie, she is back in her cabin, you can see those trousers, along with my new blazer, when she has finished them.
'' come six am and I can't sleep, no point staying in bed.''

This is every day even when you know you are off ?

Feels like this project is taking forever. Probably because it is the last 15-30% of everything I've physically done this year. Getting behind that air conditioner to clean out the bottom block drain holes, I felt like a contortionist.tempImageKyUZIf.jpg

I have been so bored! I hate this time of year when it’s so cold and dreary. I’m tired of movies, books and podcasts.
I guess I should be thankful that nothing bad is going on here.
It’s supposed to snow anytime now…
One reason I could never live in Maryland again. Was born on the Eastern Shore...wet and cold winters; humid summers.
Boring to be retired, period, IMHO. If one more person tells me "You just need a hobby" I will scream.
Have never had "hobbies"; work was fun...raising kids was fun...(mostly)....eating is fun... :ROFLMAO: 😁

Work was my life and SO topped it when he was home. Time to dig out some toys and scare the boys!!! April here I come!

This is every day even when you know you are off ?
Not every day, sometimes I am up at four am.
The word hobby might imply that it isn't a serious endeavor. But one can have interests and curiosities. Even passions.
My wardrobe is full of clothes that my talented wife has made for me. Her dressmaking "hobby" has been a lifelong passion.

Since there was discussion about hair today I’ll relate my uninteresting tale (bad pun). When I was trying on clothes at the store, every time I pulled a shirt over my head my hair stood on end. The static electricity was uncontrollable. Nothing helped. The only good thing was that the stores weren’t busy and I didn’t run into anyone I knew.

How about your other half?
Right  . :ROFLMAO:

He tends to "half-ass" things pertaining to hard work and his "good enough" isn't even close.
He believes the less energy it takes, that is good enough; ZERO attention to detail in landscaping. Unless he is weed eating all my field flowers to the ground - like he did back in Texas four years ago! He called them unruly weeds!:ROFLMAO:

He also doesn't have an engineering background and I do. I don't think a low attention to detail would go over well building bridges.

Example: I had raked up 3/4 of an entire backyard of 1" granite gravel that had been spread by previous homeowner, 2-4" deep. I did this process over four weeks a month or so ago.

In that process I'd brought/dug up stones and crap from the crappy fill job, as I also had planted eight trees.

I had placed ALL these smallish, medium and large round scrap boulders as well as broken up block wall remnants into two large old plastic plant pots two of those 10' tall trees I planted came in. I had filled these knee high plastic pots FULL. They were heavy.

One day a week ago, he asked me "What are you going to do with them?"
I said, "Since we don't have a pickup truck anymore, I am going to put a 1/3 of each pot of rocks into the trash dumpster each week. But I can only put in so many in each week, or the dumpster may break when the trash man truck lifts it to dump it; so I will do that for two or three cycles until the rocks are gone. No big deal".

Day before yesterday I saw he had a dolly and had loaded up one of the containers (a REAL heavy load I thought the pot would break, honestly) and he disappeared from the backyard. I THOUGHT he had taken it around the lot, to end of the street only one house down and dumped it in a place that needed the rocks: a spillway off the edge of the street. I saw him come back 10 minutes later to the backyard and load up the second loaded container and again I thought he was taking it to the spillway....logical as I had mentioned the "rocks could possibly go there, too".

HOWEVER, when I went around to the FRONT of our house, I found out he DUMPED the freaking scrap rocks into my rip rapped ravine I'd designed that was gorgeous! The rip rap rock was a special order, and a certain beautiful coppery brown (called Colorado Brown) landscape color and all the sizes were about football size, clean, pretty, nice angular rip rap. He had dumped little rocks, medium rocks...JUNK like broken block wall pieces into that ravine.

I don't bother to get mad OR argue.

His standard answer is: "I just can't do anything right for you...." And then in my mind I always think" "You want to DO something right? TRY thinking first...that would help, or ask FIRST even better, listen to what I said I was going to DO with the scrap rocks!!

I began taking that crap out of my ravine this afternoon.

He has no sense of style, or common sense at times because HE just wanted the rocks gone. He didn't do any of the work of raking and picking up all the crap rocks....

The only work DH does outside is walk around with a sprayer or flame thrower killing weeds and washing our cars.
I am the landscaping enthusiast. Happy to have no weeds and a clean car each week.

Gotta stay positive and take my  out on digging my own trenches and he can stay inside. :ROFLMAO:

We really have reversed roles at times...he empties the dishwasher, vacs, folds clothes well...:ROFLMAO: among other things.

Got out and filled the tank ahead of the coming snowstorm. $3.10/gallon, but what a game of "Who's On First?" trying to do it.

Put in my loyalty card, "Pull card out quickly." Did so, then waited (bare hands freezing at 18 F), finally prompted for payment card. Put that card in, "Pull card out quickly." Did so, asked me "Debit or credit card?" Answered, then it prompted "Enter PIN." Did that, wait, wait, wait. "Hey stupid, this is a chip card, leave it in when you start all over again."

Started over, left card in when told to pull it out. Waited, waited, it just sat there. Finally pulled the card out, got the raspberry again.

Did this whole thing about 5 times, trying variations.

Grr.

Finally saw that they'd added a separate pad for "blink" (contactless) cards.

Put the loyalty card in, pulled it out quickly when ordered to again. Then when it asked for payment held that card up to the add-on pad. No feedback beep, but it went to a request for PIN once more. Did that and wait, wait, wait - brr. Finally prompted to lift nozzle and select fuel type and grade.

Got done, prompted for receipt printing. Got the receipt and drove off. At least I got the 5 cent/gallon loyalty discount as well as "points" credit toward a gasoline rewards card.

Got home, receipt is crap. Right-hand side is blank from top to bottom.

Do you get the chice to pay at the kiosk?..I almost always do now, for that very reason above ..I hate paying at pump, because it very rarely reads the loyalty card ..so I just take into the shop

Yo, @hollydolly! See your tag line? You're not the same age as old people. I could have been your babysitter;).

It's chilly, damp and overcast again. Sigh. And there's still nothing on my agenda. More sighs, heavy this time.

Maybe DD will need to run some errands today. Even if it's to do something disagreeable that I wouldn't normally do and even if it's during one of the spells of heavy downpours that have been predicted, I'm going along🚶‍♀️.

My early walk this morning at 6:50 temp was 25 with a slight breeze as I went around the building 1 time before breakfast
After church on Sun as Marcia was driving me & neighbor Bill back home, she asked if I was available today to dog sit my 'buddy boy' Tage{pharoh hound} for couple of hrs. She has a church meeting, then having lunch with a friend . As usual, I'll be bringing my lunch to 'share' with Tage, she's picking me up at 11:15
When I return this afternoon, will read today's NYT, having dinner in dining room at 5:30,don;t know who I'll be sitting with. After dinner will tackle NYT daily crossword puzzle

Gigi...I'm 70 years old in April..I'm hardly a baby....:ROFLMAO:

Just got back from returning the items that I got for DD the other day... and while I was out, I decided I may as well get the grocery shopping done..even tho' I didn't need to.. but it will save me doing it next week or the week after when I'm going to be quite busy...

grim and grey out there, cold... but at least it's not raining... finally

When I got back I hung the wet washing that I'd done late ast night on the washing rack indoors..... I hate this hanging washing indoors..cannot stand it.. I'll really need to find a new tumble dryer somewhere.. just stunted by the fact that the space for it, is only for a smaller than average one, and they're difficult to find..

I'm up. When I went to bed last night, I was in a bad mood. I slept in this morning. When I finally got up, I was still in a bad mood. Then I saw a video that a friend texted to me.....and I can't stop laughing!!!! It was just what I needed! I'm not sure, but I think the guy laughing is even funnier than what he is reading!!! His laugh is very contagious!!!
😂🙃😅. LOL

I hope this will post, be sure to have your volume on......

So, I'm in a much better mood now....it was a good way to start my day!

It was sleeting when I got up, just rain now. I'll be in all day. I'm not sure what project I'll be working on.

Good day to all!

Cold hard rain all day today. This is getting monotonous.

I'm risking bad driving conditions to go visit a friend in the hospital later this morning. In the afternoon I'm going to a Crunch Fitness with my daughter to try to encourage her to exercise and maybe lose some weight. Not the most exciting day but I'm glad to be alive and well.

Sorry Trila.. I hate to say this about my fellow countryman, but he was very annoying.. what the heck was he laughing at..must have been a private joke between him and someone else.. either that or he's a 5 year old in mans' clothing...

Anyway good you're in a good mood now..lol

We are frozen in after !last night's thunder storms. And it will get worse. I40 is closed both ways with traffic jams up to 12 miles. Fun, fun, fun!

Fire place is roaring. Izzi is curled up for the day. SO is playing flee circus director in his lair. Dentist called and cancelled. So the usual house routine. I already gave the birds double rations.

Chicken chowder with corn, onion and potatoe? Fresh tiny Patty Rolls and rabbit food?

I see a sofa and a book in my crystal ball:)

@hollydolly Yes. You'll be 70, but I'm still old enough to have been your babysitter.

@hawkdon, this morning I'll have three link sausages, hash browns, two eggs scrambled with green chilies and cheese and biscuits and sausage gravy. If you'll cook it, I'll come over and clean up the kitchen.

Showered, tidied up, made bed, etc... Now what?
