How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

Got woken up by a thunderstorm this morning. I was tempted to just roll over and keep dozing, but my work awaits.

I got off fairly easy with my car yesterday. A couple of filters needed replacing, as did the little light bulb over the rear license plate—apparently you can be pulled over if your plate is not illuminated. That makes sense.

They cautioned me that the rear brakes and rotors are getting worn and will need replacing next time (probably around March), to the tune of ~700. Ouch! But at least I have a heads-up and can plan for it.

It's hard to get motivated to work when the weather is overcast and rainy; I just want to go back to bed! ⛈️

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Just got back from having the car serviced and they found a bad tire with a nail in it and it chewed up part of the tire so it will need a new one that will come in tomorrow. It was a costly bill with another part installed but it is at least serviced and will be safer.

We stopped and got some hamburgers as too late to fix something at home before dinner. Does that make sense? :D

I hope you are all still having a good day. :)

Another hunt today: It was very dark this morning. I will be forced to wear a headlamp the remaining mornings. No bugling, a couple other hunters have pushed the animals north so they are for the most part bypassing my spot right now.

All was quiet till I called in a little lost calf just a few months old. It broke my heart to hear it's plaintive calls for mama who was no where to be found. Of course it kept coming back to my calling which made me feel worse knowing I made it even more anxious never finding the animal it thought it was hearing. Thankfully it finally disappeared. (Calves taste great and are really easy to deal with compared to a full grown elk.)

After a few mins 2 spike elk wandered by, feeding and finally bedding down near my tree. About 1/2 hour went by and I was ready to leave so I lowered my back pack on a line till it was about eye level w the elk and then started it in motion. It wasn't a couple secs before they got up bewildered and headed south.

Climbed down and of course an elk bugles close by and comes running towards me. By the time I got an arrow nocked it spun and fled. And then another bull bugles and I see it trotting off to the north. They weren't the one I'm looking for so no big deal.

It seems a combination of the rut being in full swing, lack of moonlight, and additional hunting pressure has switched things up a bit. To date I've seen roughly 90 elk and out of that only 2 mature bulls.

Back at it Friday.

Well what a miserable day..grey, rainy windy.... I had to walk from a designated car park to this medical centre in the wind and rain.

I don't know why they called me yesterday and told me to park where they did, because they had their own car park....

Anyway.. it was a bit like an interogation.. the doctor started off by saying ''this is a legal examination, you must tell the truth at all times''... which kind of threw me off kilter.. like I was about to start telling fibs....

So now he sends his report back to the Insurance company and I just wait to hear from them
from there i went to the Mall which is very close to the Clinic.... and it was almost empty of people.. and 3 stores closed down....

I had a coffee there... and had a little look around the stores, bought some Peach, Peony & Jasmine soap from TKMaxx... but I never saw anything in any of the other stores that took my fancy....

On the way back I stopped off at the CHinese take-away.. and got some sweet and sour king Prawns for lunch

We haven't got much done but load the one dump truck with firewood.

We did have a message from one of our customers who would like a load if wood.
Not sure of the phone number she left,, hubby will call her later.
Using her last number which was few years ago.

He's found some trees to cut down on the lower corner of our field.
I'll be hemming my jeans & can 'keep an eye on him'.

Has any one heard from GeorgiaGrandy??
Last post I read she was under the weather... not feeling well.

had joined the gym a couple days ago after trying out different machines to determine which I can do without (or with minimal) back pain. Warmed up on treadmill and one other machine (don't know name), then got on the elliptical.

Ha.

I knew I was outta shape but just 2.5 min and my legs felt like cooked spaghetti.

Ah well, if you're on the bottom, the only way is up!

Today I went to the Planet Word Museum in Washington DC. I'd never heard of it until a couple days ago (tho turns out it was a TripAdvisor top choice award winner last year). It was very modern (not the building, which was quite old) and high-tech-y.

There was one room that had a group interactive display that was about the different origins of words and it would highlight some related-ish words across the wall and ask a question and we could say into the microphones which we thought was the right answer. I was just too inhibited for that, luckily a lot of the other museum goers were obvious game show types and kept the activity fun. There were lots of different rooms with different activities.

I was surprised how many people were at such a weird museum on a Wednesday in September.

That sounds right up my alley! I'm a confirmed Word Nerd. I love etymology, and I usually get lost in the dictionary when I look up a word because I see other interesting words. (The look of horror on my kids' faces when I mentioned this, back when they were teenagers, was priceless. ["You read the dictionary??"] 😁 )

That sounds like something I would enjoy!

when you walk on it. Hope we get some of that rain here soon too!

@hawkdon and @IrishEyes, I'd be happy to send some of our rain your way. 😉 We've been stuck in a rainy pattern for more than a week, and flood warnings are beginning to be issued. I'm getting frustrated because I want to get as much outdoor time in as possible before the long, brutal winter starts.
Ksav thanks but it is still raining herre for now at least, dunno
how long it will last, good soaking in rain is what we need....

So unfair isn't it? I have not had to mow the grass since June, which sounds wonderful but it's not really. I am setting out water dishes and baths for the birds and squirrels as there is not a drop of standing water within some of their territories, though we have a lake just below us they
don't go there sticking close to nests up by me. All that ice last winter, so hot this summer, my body screams to be moved. 😂
due to be 93F today then steady dropping from 88 tomorrow to 75 Sunday forecast. I hope hawk gets some relief as well up his way.
Day at a time, day at a time. Hope your rain is coming this way. Thank you for wanting to share!

Our area is also without rain for a couple of months.
Been watering the tomatoes.

Finally picking some green tomatoes to ripen on the window slit.

Hemming jeans got held up as I did some maintenance on the sewing machine.
Needed oiled , seems the bottle of oil evaporated spill out.
Found a small bottle of what looked to be clear oil.
Used my finger & hope I got some oil where it was needed.

Will finish getting the bobbin back in & try again.

Hope all is going well with everyone.
