I went to the hospital yesterday for a 6-hour assessment to see if I could get into a new clinical trial that I really wanted to participate in, but alas, I didn't qualify. They talked to my cardiologist about my "incident" in July and, though everyone agrees that it wasn't my heart causing it, they said the trial was too risky for me. Dang.

The plumber showed up early at noon, so he has done his
thing and left me a mess to clean on the floor, black junk
from the old seal he replaced...so toilet is okay now...he found
that he p=trap drain pipe for the tub had come apart sometime
and so the tub water was draining to the ground~~~!! Don't
know when that happend, but fixed it so should be all set
for winter.......... (y)
I'm glad to hear that it's all fixed and ready to go.

But.....I'm surprised that he left a mess when he was done. I don't have a lot of experience with plumbers, but lately I've had to call them out to my Mom's house a few times. They have always cleaned up before leaving. I guess I just thought that they all did that. 🤔

I finished the reconciliation of my checkbooks this morning. I started yesterday but noticed that my main one hadn't been balanced in two and a half months. I felt very tired yesterday and didn't feel like finishing the task, which is not like me because I love doing financial stuff. I was also on the phone with HS#3 a couple of times this evening finalizing content for Saturday's broadcast and finishing the background information portion of the assessment I took the other night.

Good morning everyone. Another nice day, although it looks like Tropical Storm Melissa is circling around and they are still not sure where it will go. Fingers crossed it will go out into the Atlantic Ocean but some of the islands will be affected at this time in the projection.

@Pepper I will keep you in my thoughts today that all goes well.🤗

Have a good day, everyone. :)
Rae, as of the last night's weather report, looks like you'll be safe from Melissa. It's supposed to linger over part of the Caribbean as a Cat 4 by early next week, then veer right, missing the states. We know tracks can change, but I hope that's what it actually does. My BFF lives in Florida too.

My HP Omen 35L desktop is powering up then booting up Windows 11 normally. Uncertain why it automatically shut down powering off while I was away a few hours and then after I retuned, would not power up at all? When I powered it on now several hours later, during boot up, the fan oddly turned at maximum speed for a minute as though some system function had latched a process to do so maybe before it powered down, with a still latched variable upon re-power up, that could mean something had overheated? Hopefully, whatever won't repeat.

The giant sequoia grove in that state park is the largest in the north part of the Sierra Nevada and was where the first American Gold Rush settler from the Angels Camp community, noticed in 1854 while chasing a wounded grizzly bear, that there were giant trees. That quickly became a national news item. Later, larger groves were discovered far to the south.

It is one of the oldest state parks and has considerable visitor facilities. That easy 1.1 mile long North Grove loop trail has several wooden boardwalk sections through areas that fill with ground water after storms. Each mid to late October for about a brief couple weeks, the understory Pacific dogwood, cornus nuttallii, tree leaves become very colorful as well as much other vegetation leaves as those on big oak maples, black oaks, and thimbleberry. Walking through such forests during diffuse light cloud overcast conditions is utterly magical with the leaves glowing like neon.

As an old landscape and nature photographer, I can advise any visiting SF members capable of at least minor hiking, of where, when, how to visit such natural areas if they say visit San Francisco during that period. For years on other web boards, I've advised nature seekers, photographers, and backpackers. Likewise, for some uncommon after wet winters, spring wildflower events like blooms in our Southwest deserts. Note there are a few regional bus tours that include visits to that park, Gold Rush tourist sites, and Yosemite Valley.

This old non-profit organization for the park has considerable visitor information.

Every body have a good day

Couple problems yesterday morning on the way to the gym. The bus doesn't run during slack and it's only a short bus when it does run so no room for the 50 other elk nearby. These ladies were waiting politely and one was even reaching for a poop bag. Can't have elk poop on the bike path.

Lots of errands today trying to get ready for winter. There is a small storm over the coming weekend so trying to get things put away before they get wet.

Good morning everyone. It is cold here at 51 degrees.

@OneEyedDiva Yes, looks like Melissa will miss Florida at this time. Most spaghetti models have it going out into the Atlantic Ocean when it turns. The problem is the slow movement that is causing flooding to many islands in its path.

We had our Covid vaccinations yesterday and both of feel fine. The lady who gave us the vaccinations was very good and I didn't feel it going in.

Have a good day and hope all of you are well. :)

Good morning! The rain isn't too far off, but I'm hoping that we are going to sneak through a little hole and hardly get anything. We'll see! Regardless, the rain is expected to start today and continue to at least Sunday.....so another Saturday of no skating, for me.... 1761309240368.gif

Dio said that he slept OK for part of the night, then his incisions started to hurt enough to keep him up. Well, it was expected. Actually, I'm surprised that he was able to sleep at all! Under the circumstances, not skating this weekend might be a good thing.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing today. I have a cleaning project that I have been wanting to do for a while. It's not hard, or long, I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe today is the day. Also, I hope the work on my photo project. I guess it all depends on how the day goes.

My youngest son, God Bless Him, is here at my house waiting for a pkg pick up. While waiting, he agreed to help me clean out the pipes under the kitchen sink. It’s really hard for me to get down to reach under the sink.

I sure am grateful to him because it really needed it.
that's because he loves his mum......tell him he can have a free week in the Uk if he can come and do a few jobs here.....lol:D:ROFLMAO:

my neighbor loaned me a black light yesterday. In this manner I was able to find the scorpion that stung my guy and kill it. Obsessively searched the home in the dark looking for other scorpions…and found none. Slept better last night…man I hate those things….
thank god we don't get them here away from the beaches...

Spent some time catching up on a week plus of posts on this thread.
@Pepper, I'm so sorry about the amputation of your toe and send wishes for speedy healing.

Seems like most everyone else here has been in keep on keepin' on mode.

We're midway through a new pool filter gizmo being installed. The previous one lasted 70 years, but just our luck it went out while we were on vacay. A chapter and verse description is in post #12858.
What have you bought recently?

Had a great time on a week cruise down the Mexican coast. Came back to a few business chores, but besides those and the filter, everything on the home front is copacetic.

Time to gear up for Halloween.

Hope all are doing well. Hope all make today great day, SF Peeps!

He is ADORABLE!!!

p.s. How's it going with your daughter? Has she been looking for work to begin when she's laid off, or is she holding steady for the moment?
Thanks for asking Star... she was headhunted by 3 different companies, thank god... and one company actually created a postion for her.. and she's chosen the company she wants to work for, now.. she'll start in November

I'm so relieved because she was so upset about losing her current job... the new job pays more, and is still not far from home... so I'm delighted for her..

All the staff of her current job have now been laid off and are gone.. with the exception of my daughter and the directors who are just finalising everything now... and they go out for a final farewell dinner next week...
