My GKs have analog clocks in their bedrooms and DD has an analog clock in her kitchen. My GKs learned to tell time in school, just as I was.

As for modern phones, it would take like a minute to teach push button phones to someone already familiar with cell phones.

Old dial phones won't work with modern telecommunication, so there's no need to teach people that. No more than there was reason to teach our generation the skills of driving a horse and buggy. Doesn't make today's kids stupid or ignorant, just means they're learning technology that will be relevant to their lives.
I taught my kids all that stuff. They were born in '94 and '95. They know all about technology and probably didn't listen when I also taught them the flip side - cyber security.

I don't think adults in their 30s are stupid or ignorant. I do think they can figure out on their own how to use a push-button phone without consulting YT or an older person. Most would likely consult YT. Heck, I might even consult YT -- at least for appliance repairs.

When my sister was 7 years old, she took apart and repaired two old radios (in bakelite cases) that had not worked ever, in our memories. No one told her anything. She tried different things and something worked. I see nothing wrong with that approach, one that uses trial-and-error and the human brain. That's how I learned everything I know about computers, except for programming.

I also taught my kids how to handle a car when they were behind a horse and buggy on the road. Amish. PA. Better to avoid accidents - which is the car driver's responsibility because the deaths and injuries that occur are often of buggy passengers and horse(s). I did not teach them how to drive a horse and buggy, though, you are right about that.

Anyway, turns my son just told me he was messing with me. The lesson was about how to put someone on hold (the button has hold printed on it) and off hold (bare button).

There are youngins that can't tell what time it is on an analog clock. It has to be digital. Most of the clocks at work are analog. LOL
Yeah, I taught my kids how to read an analog clock. It was on the kitchen wall. They complained the whole time, as though I was teaching them animal husbandry for dinosaurs. At that point, analog clocks were still around in lots of places.

Much enjoyed a rowdy Dead jam band event in SF last night packed with lively dancers. But didn't get to sleep till 3am. Then woke a bit after 6am feeling surprisingly awake, so showered, then went to our 7am mass. Cold, 39F sunny day outside but now has risen to 51F. Just enjoyed some warm cream of tomato with basil soup. 49er versus Bears NFL game is at 1:30pm PST.

San Francisco, especially the downtown zone, is a most difficult city to park in for free and safely, given pedestrians, many narrow streets and alleys, many one way streets and weird intersections, lots of service vehicles double parking and offloading, parking meters along many streets, and in some areas, many homeless persons some of which burglarize vehicles. Of course, worse at night, like when I drove in last night. There is plenty of multistory pay garage parking. that is never cheap.

But there are plenty of map resources to figure out what to do to avoid all that, like the city parking meter map, and residential parking permit map, so I have now located a great unnoticed place to park for free on a difficult to access small street near 2 major boulevards and a bunch of churches haha, where I'll now be parking free for anything downtown in the future.

My first day back skiing after the flu. Brilliant sunshine, 3°F, and calm winds, really the first decent winter day all season. Had the my heaviest down jacket, and the heaviest pair of gloves on. On the first ride up a 9000'+ I was feeling a little woozy, starved for oxygen, and wondering if I shouldn't download w/out skiing.

But I gave it a shot and quickly did a couple laps, it felt good, legs were strong, sucking wind though. Met my buddy and then my wife and daughter and her boyfriend joined. We spent a couple hours dodging crowds and trying out some recently opened runs. The area is only 40% open so it was clogged w skiers.

Went to the store to get some food for lunch and it was absolutely mobbed in town. One more week of mayhem and we get back to just being crowded. The daughter and boyfriend and their lab puppy Aspen just took off so we have some time to reflect on our Christmas which was celebrated yesterday.

The above Print Screen captures were off the below 72 minute YouTube link, crude smartphone capture of the first set, someone made last night. At that time, I was behind the balcony at frame right where numbers of people had room to freestyle dance in the dark including several twirling Dead style women. The rest of the old theater venue (capacity 470) was packed with limited open spaces. Notice the crowd's "fog" up near the stage. Outdoors was a chilly 53F. I free parked my car about 5 blocks away.

Hey, @hollydolly !

You inspired me with your empty drawers. I now have an empty shelf! Just added/built a new shelf in a closet. Is that cheating?
see it's that kind of mind set that got me into the situation I'm in now..... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I have cleared 2 more drawers today..plus a snap lidded box.........

...also I've added drawer handles to a set of drawers that hasn't got any handles...look like this...

...so now with the OA in my fingers it's actually painful to try and open the drawers without handles, so I fitted new ones today....

Winter has finally arrived here. It's been unusually warm for this time of year with very little snow, about 8" total so far. Woke up yesterday morning to less than an inch and it was all melted by noon. This morning, it is 17F and still dry with clear skies, bright stars!

Will finish the painting on the living room walls today, getting ready for the electrician to come tomorrow. Will be glad when this project is finished, although the baseboards still need to be installed. So glad to be back at it!

Good morning, SFers! Final 2025 party is in the books, and the house is mostly put to right. A few post-party chores ahead of DH & me, but nothing serious. I put sweatpants on this morning as a reminder to myself throughout the day that this is a day for chillaxing.

Our older GKs wanted to come back today and spend the night, but DH & I begged off. We need at least one recovery day after hosting a big party.

DD & DSIL commented that they hadn't frosted a single cookie throughout any of this year's gatherings, and DH & I realized the same was true for us. So we planned it for New Years Eve, during the day.

They'll come for lunch and cookie decorating, and leave no later than 4 PM to avoid early drunken NYE revelers on the road. Thinking Mexican food for that lunch. Tamales, rice & beans, Caesar salad. They're easy to hang with - as are our two other kids and their families.

Hope all are making today a good one!

Our high for the day will be around freezing, and it won't even get there until sometime this afternoon!!! Burrrr!!!!

Yesterday, we had 50 mph wind gusts! It even blew over our outdoor Christmas tree, and I didn't think that was even possible!!

Did I ever mention: I don't like the cold!!!! I moved South for a reason!!! 😠

The Girls are closed in. They are comfy and warm from being protected from the wind, and sharing body heat.

Goober is in kitchen. He doesn't want to go into his basket, but he is all poofed-up and dozing on the rug. He has a lot of fur, so the basket might be too warm for him. Either that, or he's a cat and will do what he wants!!!! 😂

My younger daughter and her boyfriend flew back home last night from a few days visiting his parents in Arizona. I texted her ahead of time to let her know the wind chills were about –21 F (–29 C); she was not happy to come back to those temperatures. I imagine it was a bit of a rude awakening!

We're hovering at about 7 F/–14 C right now, not too bad. I'll be taking a break from work later to run some errands.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

I briefly went outside at 6:50am to the end of driveway by our front entrance, was breezy but no snow temp was 50, an hr later the winds really picked up,snow started flying. The mayor ordered no unnecessary travel in Buffalo & other parts of Erie County due to high winds anywhere from 40 -65mph
As I look out my living room window, we have a dusting to 1 inch of snow, temps now in the 30's
I walked the hallways 3 times today for exercise, finished today's NYT crossword puzzle online, don;t know where the day went
