How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2026....

Good morning everyone. It is cooler today with high of 67 degrees and 39 degrees tonight. We are going into a cold snap this week, so it will be jackets again.

@hollydolly you sure do have a busy life. I hope you can sleep longer tonight.

We are going to two drug stores this morning and eating lunch somewhere.

I hope you all have a nice day and stay well. :)

I feel good today! I'm looking forward to getting back to doing my PT and other exercises!

I'll be making split pea soup for dinner. I'm also hoping to put away the last of my Christmas decorations, except for the tree.
(of course!!!

I was going to cut my hair today also. But it will probably get put off until tomorrow, or the day after, or the day, after, or the day after that!!!!

I try on purpose to be busy, tbh Rae... because sometimes if there's nothing to do or for me to cncentrate on for extended periods of time..I get really bored and fed up.... :)

DS texted yesterday and offered 4 year old for the day. We happily accepted and had a great day with him. Spending time with him scuttled most of my plans, but there was nothing on my agenda that couldn't be delayed until today or tomorrow.

Kids quickly grow out of wanting to hang out with grandparents for full days, so we savor every moment we get when they're still begging to be with us.

I have Patches the new-to-me cat now! We're both struggling with the adjustment though. I think this must be her first time as an only cat, and since she's always been in a foster cat home, she's not feeling 'rescued', she acts like she wants to be rescued FROM me. First she hid for hours, then in the wee hours this morning she cried for hours, but at least she's not hiding and scared like yesterday. Instead she's keeping a suspicious watch on me.

Treats. Let her know you set one out near her. Then gradually she has to approach you to pick up nearby treats. They can be high calorie so must use minimally.

Also if you like tuna, opening a can of that fills the rooms with invitation for a shared morsel.

Morning all, when I woke up at 6:30 looked out my bedrm window noticed it was snowing/looked at the flag it was flapping, decided not to go outside.
I was born in Buffalo and lived there until I was 17. It seemed like it was always snowing. I don't remember having a lot snow days at school though. I do remember getting off the school bus at the first stop and hanging off the bumper skiing behind it because the roads were always snow covered. Snow back then was wonderful. Not so much these days. Stay warm.

I bought some new flush ceiling lights for the new utility room, and apparently the delivery is 6 stops away.. It's now 5.30pm pitch dark, & raining...poor delivery person....

My neighbour just brought me around dinner BBQ meats.. and he's a builder by trade , so he was having a look in at the utility room, and was surprised that it's going to take a whole 3 weeks to do.. , he told me a few things to say to them which might work in my favour...:)

My house had a tiny laundry room when we moved in, but we added some square footage to it and converted it to a half bath (sink and toilet) during major remodel and addition in 1989. My architect and general contractor were surprised when I insisted on moving the laundry area to the garage, but I wanted to get the noise and chaos out of the house. An interior door connects the house to the garage, so I don't need to go out into the weather.

From the moment we moved here in 1985 we knew we'd never park in the attached two car garage. It's a workshop, utility room, storage area, laundry room and houses everything we need for our small business (other than the few times a year when we're really cranking and the overflow comes into the house).

We went from 1486 square feet to 2500.

I had a 5 year old and 3 year old twins when making those choices, so laundry was endless. If remodeling now, I'd add an interior utility room. However, it's worked out just fine over the years.

Photos of UK houses often show washing machines in the kitchen, which is rarely true in the US.

In our New Haven house which was a Victorian there was a room off the kitchen which doubled as a laundry room and half bath. I was just glad they found a way to include both without touching the mud room or butler's pantry.

@CaliS

As a West Coast person, since there are plenty of mountain ski resorts just a few hours drive away from any of our coastal urban regions, that all a single person of modest resources and youth athletic experience, needs to do, is drive somewhere after doing a bit of homework. The below besides skiing, also applies to those singles wishing in summer to go mountain places they read about.

Just get in your car, put on the music, grab that hand into your bag of snacks, and Get On the Road. And that especially applies to Single seniors that have the time as most of us do, and still can do whatever minimally physically.

  • Doesn't need to involve any other people or friends because in this modern technology era world, with motor machines that can transport us for hundreds of miles on any day, and lodging or do it yourself camping gear all across the land, we individuals have been set free to make and enjoy our lives. Just do it!
  • Doesn't need to be to some fancy expensive resort but rather just be satisfied with some basics, one with just short novice slopes.
  • If one is flexible, choose to do so on a day with nice sunny weather.
  • Doesn't mean you will be changing your life, but rather would like to just dabble in a bit of winter snowy landscapes and nature, that can affect we Earth creature beings to our living core.
  • You don't need others or to do whatever inside some organized group. If you enjoy yourself in any activity, having fun and thinking about such, you can invest in any social aspects in the future.
And better with a bit of web searching, you'll find there are ski buses from urban areas that make all the logistics even easier including dealing with rental gear etc. Just a web search away from that fun. Heck some people just take those buses to resorts to sit around and watch, touch some real snow, smell some fresh mountain air, and maybe just drinking some coffee outside on benches at a base lodge.

Thanks much David, I was an avid skier for many years - but have since retired from the sport. I meant only to say, I envy those who are my age and even older who can still do it! :ROFLMAO:

I have completely lost my mind. If you happen to see it, would you please catch it and return it to me?!!!

Last night, I grabbed my dust rag and gave the end table in the living room a quick wipe. Today......I can't find that dust rag ANYWHERE!!!! I'm sure that I just idly set it down somewhere, but I don't have a clue where! I've looked, and looked, and looked.....

The dust rag doesn't really matter, since I know that it will eventually turn up. It's the not knowing what I did with it that is driving me crazy(-er)!!!!!

I can't tell you how convenient it is to have a half bath right off the kitchen. They're separated by a roughly 4 foot wide by 10 foot long hallway that leads to a back door on one side and living room on the other.

The bathroom has a very heavy pocket door that effectively muffles sounds.

Wet food can help during an adjustment period. Good luck. I know you will be best buddies soon.

Today is another repeat of Saturday,,, staying home.
Only this morning woke up to see Snow on the ground.
Hubby told son that he didn't plan on going anywhere!

Made a batch of meatballs & spaghetti for lunch.
We both took second helpings,,, guess we are feeling better!

I should bake fresh batch of cookies,, or try making a loaf of oatmeal honey bread.

Have another mystery novel to read,,,, curling up in blanket & reading is wining over baking.

Hope everyone is safe & warm,, taking life easy on Sunday.

@HoneyNut, I'm so glad you were able to adopt her! I hope the adjustment starts to go more smoothly.

I had the most realistic dream I've ever had about my son, that I was at his graduation celebration (high school, not college, I think) and he had decided to forgive me at the last minute, and I was there at the ceremony with him and his friends.

It was so very real, and so very happy, that I was crushed to wake up and realize it was just a dream. 😢😢😢 I couldn't get out of bed; I just got up now, around 3:00 pm. I have piles of work to do, so I must get going even though all I want to do is sleep.

I have the opportunity to do some online sessions with an estrangement coach (I just got off a wait list). I can't really afford it, because she'd be out of network so insurance won't pay, plus as Gen X I'm rather put off by the notion. My instinct is to just suck it up and deal with it.

Hi MoBeans,I live right in the city, today we got 2 inches unlike areas south of here where they get the bulk of the snow. Its been a weird weather pattern the past week, no snow on the ground, Fri's high was 61, yesterday with rain it hit 40,today temps in the 30's Sue

It was so loud and one shot after another. I haven't heard gun shots here before. I will be cautious going outside and stay near the house on the sheltered side. I don't want to call the police unless I see something. It might be someone shooting at a target but do not think they can in a residential area.

Try to interpret your dream as a good sign. It could be.

Check out your local FB or online chat group. If you don’t belong, it doesn’t hurt to join. I just read, never reply.
