Our holiday weekend , and in fact week off for the children..starts next Friday ..the end of the month.. However the forecast for this weekend is to be hot and sunny...so I'm hoping that people will be keeping their money to go away next weekend and places might be quieter for me to visit this weekend... That's the theory anyway
DH & I didn't think about it being a holiday weekend before scheduling our special day with 4 year old GS, but it worked out ok. The train was far fuller than when we went an hour away last September. This time we went twice as far and he was a happy camper the entire time.

As with our last trip, we stayed at the destination for only enough time to have lunch before catching another train home. The point of the day was the train ride,

DS called late last evening to say our little guy was buzzing all evening about his great day with us.
❤️❤️❤️

I'm going to be using a train this coming week if all goes well... not going too far just don't want to drive there...

I have just spent the last hour and a half in the garden, cutting back more IVY..messing with stuff in the shed, but it's sooo hot 🥵 so I've abandoned that for today in favour of sitting in this cool room with a fan on me...

Today my grandson has his eighth birthday. Can’t believe how much I love him. So glad he exists!
His dad my son will pick me up at noon for a family celebration. Last week he had a party with his friends.
So I will hang out here with my friends until noon.
I love that age. Grandchildren are definitely a special blessing. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your day Pepper.

Our garden is a little bit wild, but seniors don't have longer the energy to keep it meticulously in order.
The Elephant Ears rarely have just one flower, and the spring-fed pond needs cleaning. The pond used to have a fountain.

I arrived in America penniless and set out to build a paradise for my family. Regrettably, I got stuck halfway through my dreams.

@Sliverfox We also have stray cats. With milk and hamburger meat, I eventually could entice a calico princess to be domesticated. Little did I know that she was pregnant and promptly gave birth to a half dozen cute kitties under my bed. Luckily a friend of my daughter adopted the whole family.

Early this morning, I updated my FEP (financial empowerment plan aka budget) spreadsheet with the latest three month projections based on receiving additional funds (the loan) next month. I didn't do much else because I didn't want to risk tiring myself out before the broadcast tonight which necessitates climbing 3 flights of stairs. I interviewed Honorary Son #3 during the second half of the show. We had fun and think that it went well. Rest well everyone.

Good Night.gif

Agreed on all points. If we appreciates plants in nature I think it is easier to go on appreciating our plants as nature takes a more active role in determining who grows and who goes. Looks great. Love your elephant ears.

Morning all,on early morning walk at 6:30{birdies woke me up at 5:30,couldn't go back to sleep} temp was 54,cloudy still felt damp from yesterday's rain as I walked twice around the building complex.
My plans this morning, Marcia will be picking me and neighbor Bill up at 10am for our 10:30 service. I may walk home from there ,will take umbrella just in case. I'm taking a break from going to brunch for awhile, not really a brunch person. The 3 options for dinner today don;t appeal to me,taking a pass.
The rest of my day talk with my brother, read local paper
Everybody have a good day

Happy Sunday all folks!!! Bright sunshine to start the day, 65deg going
to 85 maybe, slight chance for rain.....on my second cuppa so have been
up awhile, feel pretty good today, aches n pains about normal....dunno what
I'll get into today...the cemetery across the steet was transformed this a.m.,
early when Scout troops placed small US flags at Veterans Grave Sites,
and Large US Flags along the streets...looks very nice..... 🇺🇲;)

Supposed to be another coolish day with a high of 63. Suits me because we're going to walk at the beach today and I like it cool when I walk.

Big plans: we'll finish our latest rummy tournament over breakfast and then get under way by 10:30 to go get coffee. We'll try to time it so we can listen to Philosophy Talk on the radio which starts at 11. Just political philosophy this month but there is usually something interesting in it.

Because low tide is between noon and 1 today it won't be any problem. Lia is such a good sport. She'll stay up on top with her walker on the paved trail and I'll rendezvous with her once Ember and I make it back up on the north path. She enjoys talking with other dog people on the many benches and will no doubt wear a lot of layers. She was a marine scout as a kid.

Big time rain yesterday. one and a half inches fell in less than an hour. Garden likes it. However, last night, there was another round with some house shaking boomers. (2 more inches of rain) Poor furr babies kept us up most of the night. Already on my 6th cup of coffee and still can barely function. Probably won't paint the bathroom today. :(

We have a couple of feral cats, that come bagging.
Both females that can't be caught.

Don't think we have any animal control officer in this area.

@Sliverfox Don't be too nice to stray cats; here are pictures of what happened to me when I started feeding a stray calico princess.

Seeing Fluffy in our garden, I took pity on her and started feeding the stray kitty.

What a surprise: giving birth under my bed one by one all night long. I did not have a good sleep being sort of a midwife.
Actually, I was quite excited.

I was glad when eventually a friend of my daughter adopted the whole family. Cats are wonderful, but I am a dog person.

Today I am dog-sitting an 18 year old Schnauzer/Poodle mix. About animal control: My last few dogs were all strays that were picked up by animal control, kept for about two weeks, and then put up for adoption. I obtained that way for free my latest wonderful 12 month old Boxer puppy Rex. <24Petconnect.com provides lost, found, and adoptable info for pets> is indexing adoptable animals from dozens of public and private shelters.

@hollydolly Unlike in England, we are here in a different situation. Urbanization is pushing into wilderness areas; and in turn, bears enjoy our swimming pools while mountain lions and coyotes snatch our pets, as frequently seen on local TV Stations. Urban coyotes even attack small children but not adults. And then there are the smaller critters, like skunks, possums, raccoons, snakes, etc.

Trying to get last minute stuff organized so I can leave town tomorrow. The new house has closed...and I have been trying to move all the small stuff so it ia not such chaos. Heading north tomorrow to our other other home...then down river for ten days. I have never been down the colorado...even though I have had opportunities. Should be a great time, if I do not forget some essential.

Our friend who lives near a large city,, grumbles about the Animal control which neuters the cats & turns them loose again.
She says the bird population is down due to so many cats.

Not sure about fox & bear in my area,,killing cats.
I've seen both close to our house.

Noticing the wild deer, turkey seem to have gone down in population this Spring.

we just don't have feral cats where I live. The cats I see wandering around , are all beloved pets of my neighbours....I just wish they could train them ..as we do with dogs..not to chit in other people's gardens...
