How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

This is the first thing I read this morning, so sad.
We had rain during the night but there are no limbs or leaves on the ground so no wind.

Sad, but It is getting so common anymore.
Houston area got sucker-punched last Thursday night with mainly straight line winds that were recorded up to 100 mph., and ran a course of over 300 miles thru the southern part of the state. There was an imbedded tornado that touched now nearby in Cypress, Tx.

No power for days for much of Harris County, with downed trees and transmission towers mangled in the process. It will be a long recovery for many.
Downtown Houston has streets closed because over 4000 windows were blown out in high rises.
Death toll was at 8 the last I heard.

And Hurricane Season starts June 1st. .... not a good idea to have much perishable food around, if you don't have a generator.

@JustBonee , are you ok? Has your building escaped damage? 💙

I live about 25 miles away from downtown.
I'm in a Senior Apt. complex that lost power for three days, so lost all refrigerator/freezer food. I just can't imagine the amount of food that has been thrown away by everyone!

Things have been so crazy .... the local school district threw their hands in the air after no school for days, and told the high school kids when they did return, to "go home for the summer" - NO final exams this year!

Hello!

I've not read any posts yet, but I just wanted to check in.

We had bad storms come through during the night. Apparently Mom Nature was upset about something! We had tornado warnings, heavy rain, high winds, and hail. We also lost our power.

Everything seems ok, now. From my window, it looks like my Orange Glory bush took a hard hit....

I'll find out later, if there is any major damage in the woods.

Between getting home late and being up with the storms, I'm about 2 hours late with everything this morning. And, after being alone all day yesterday, (of course) Goober wants to play!

I've just finished doing the rest of the hedges...trimming tops and sides of about 50 feet.. I did the same amount a couple of days ago out front... such hot work. I wear gloves, but for some reason my fingers are stinging like I've been touching stinging nettles.

I'd just got nearly finished, hadn't swept up yet and the Thunder & lightening started.. so I came in, and it lasted 10 minutes so I went back out and swept up all the wet leaves... It's really hard work, it means also for a lot of it I have to be on top of a 5 rung ladder to be able to reach.. and it doesn't help that next doors' trees hang right over, and I have to chop them off as well...

I'm seriously thinking that it might be time to start calling in a gardener.. even if only for the hedges.. they're just so high now, and even on the ladder it's precarious for me because part of my back garden is on a slop so the ladders even with ladder grips.. are not stable.. and aside from all that I'm finding the very long reach hedge trimmer to be quite heavy to sue, and to grip given my OA...

Anyway.. the rain is off for now, the sun is out but I can hear thunder in the distance. It's 4.15pm.. very quiet because it's a holiday week... and most neighbours have gone out or away...

It feels terrible to be complaining about little stuff when storms are causing such damage and mayhem elsewhere

Good idea. Wrangling heavy tools while on ladders is a job for professionals and younger folks.

Oh Bonnie, I am sorry you lost your food and suffered with no power! I bet those school kids were not sad about going home early!

TGS is back home with his parents. We love having him but having a two year old in the house does keep us on the double-jump.

Today will include some laundry, general straightening and other minor housework. Might even put on a pair of gloves and see about rearranging the freezer and planning meals around some items that have been shoved to the back. We all know how that happens.

And we still haven't counted and sorted the cartons that came in the other day. We have an embroidery delay so we won't be taking them there until Weds or Thurs. A reprieve!

Other than a quick library trip, it's doubtful we'll be going beyond our neighborhood or kids' homes. Places will be crowded while people enjoy the glorious Memorial Day weekend weather. High of 74° and mostly sunny today, 80° tomorrow.

I could be wrong but I never hear of anyone helping the USA when this happens ...
For one, Canada does when there are some disasters that need extra help, especially in the north. Floods, fires, downed power lines, etc. The US has a large population with an extremely well-trained infrastructure.

I can’t speak to their other border neighbour, Mexico.

NZ & Australia have helped during extreme fire seasons.

Then there’s the private groups like church members who give help on their own.
