Today was a good day. We need some rest after a week in London and walking between 15 and 20k steps per day, and also eating and drinking way too much. :giggle: So - we took Likkle Grandson on a 'Nature Tots' session at a local Nature Reserve, where about 20 younguns were taken on a walk around looking for insects and other stuff, followed by lots of crafts and interesting stuff to do. We've been on these before on different themes and they're great - with minimal inptut from us apart from just being there if needed. I spent the afternoon editing photos from London - and napping :ROFLMAO: (y)

Enjoying the respite from the heavy smoke. Yesterday DW & visiting DD drove 45 minutes north, and visited with a friend who has returned to her home after being evacuated, then the four of us went to dinner at a restaurant that none of us had experience with. Enjoyed the meal.

Went to bed around 10pm. I heard thunder and saw lightning flashing through partially open bedroom window blinds, and a noisy downpour started sometime before 3am. I got up and went to the living room... after satisfying myself that there wasn't a lot of thunder/lightning, I went to sleep on the couch until 6.

Anyhow, today started out with DD & I doing a blueberry pick from soaking-wet bushes. Later, a lot was accomplished outside. Also I set up a Chromecast unit, which replaces the AppleTV unit that'd recently become an unsupported (non-functional) model. A slightly tricky process, but finally accomplished.

So far, no reports have come our way of new lightning strikes from the storm in the local forests. But sometimes it can take a day or so until smoke from one or more new fires becomes perceptible.

Good morning folks!!! I'm am here, no bright and chipper but
here just the same....all sunny out there if a bit cooler, 60deg F,
going to 80F today.....I'm still sore all over, but so what......my
handyman is to be here today to start some work I've lined
up for him....outside tree trimmings, spray was exterior of the
house, and maybe some haul of trash in the house....but me
I'm not getting involved!!!! ;):cool::coffee:o_O

It's 2.15pm overcast after we had rain around 7 am this morning.. There had been no forecast for rain so I had to dash out and collect up all the garden seat cushions before they got soaked.
Had some bad news . My sister posted on FB that she's got cancer.. she actually posted that she's ''dying''.. but that she's accepted it..

We're not close at all.. she lives the other side of the country, and she was the sister who would always invent stories to my father so she could watch him lash out at me, she took great delight in that... so altho' we do talk at any kind of family gathering.. we don't keep in contact at all..

I saw her post on FB.. ( she doesn't have my FB details)...but of course she is my sister so I've sent her a message through FB showing concern.

My tooth is feeling better this morning, but it's still sensitive. Well, sensitive is better than painful, so I'm hoping that it will be ok.

I'm still feeling extra groggy today. It's common for me, this time of year. I think it's the humongous amounts of pollen that we have. I'm ok with it since I know that winter will be here all too soon!

The gym is still under construction, but open. We're going to go into town later and see if we can workout. I think the Library is my only other stop today.

Woo hoo!

I almost wish I was in the market for a new car. I just got a second dealer offer on my 6 1/2 year old car I paid $30K for, and this one came in at $20.5K - and that is before inspecting it. It's in excellent shape so I'd hope to do even better.

Of course they're desperate to sell new cars now, and they need quality used cars badly. And then there is the whole scammy dealer dynamic to consider.

Too bad the car I'd want isn't being delivered to dealers yet this model year. And the very likely interest rate cuts coming means the cash won't be doing as much sitting in the bank any more either.

I've just had the interest rate cut on my savings account... I 'm not sure what to do about it, ..tbh..

having savings in the bank these days is barely different to having it stuffed under the mattress...

On my morning walk with the 3 pups, Mother Nature always cheers me up.

For a while, I watched busy bees gathering their breakfast on a cactus flower. The red are the leaves of Bougainvillea

Sunrise is the best time of the day for walking. Coming home, it was still only 68 degrees, but by 3 p.m. it will be again 100

Crepe Myrtle are passed their prime bloom, but Palos Verdes are just starting to bloom and will soon be yellow all over

Slow morning here.
Ended up watching 18 wild turkey & their young ones work their way across the field eating insects.
One older bird would be the guard bird while the others ate.

While we watched,,, hubby remarked there go two buck deer!

We never saw wild turkeys when we were young, 60 some years ago.

Same for deer ,,, guess that was when folks still needed meat for the table.

Now its more about large rack of antlers on a male deer.

Mrs.L and I put most of our savings in fixed rate bonds and ISA's when the rates were good, but kept some in instant access accounts. You're right, savings accounts are little better than useless.

I've never seen more than one at a time... that must have been quite something to see..
It was interesting. I just wish they'd been lit from the front because I mostly saw silhouettes.

I wonder if the recent unusual early cold spell here has triggered them into building reserves for their southerly migration early? Flowers are less abundant right now so that might explain some of the competitiveness.

How much of an interest rate cut do you expect?

@hollydolly, I’m sorry to hear of your sister’s cancer. ((Hugs)). If I was there (sans the Covid), I’d make you a nice cuppa with extra sugar 🫖☕️. Maybe some shortbread to go with it? 😘
