Tonight my building is having a potluck, one of the items I'd planned to take was a package of chocolate-covered marshmallow Santas, but 'somehow' there aren't many left in the package and so I think the remaining Santas might as well stay home with me. ;)

Yesterday I went on a day bus trip to Annapolis for their holiday craft fair and nighttime holiday-decorated boat parade. It was too cold to be outside all day, so most of the group showed up early at the restaurant we had dinner at, and everyone showed up early for the bus home. The organizer called the bus to come an hour before the scheduled time and we all got to travel home early. Other than freezing half to death, it was a great day. The prices of the crafts were too high for me, so I paid to take a boat ride instead.

Annapolis is one of my favorite cities to visit. LOVELY photos! THANK YOU for sharing your adventure out!

@hollydolly You'd think! She has cut down a whole lot and only "cheats" on Friday/Saturday. It's why Saturday is Dessert for Dinner day. She's actually started making salads at home for lunch and usually cereal with fruit for dinner the rest of the time.

Until a couple of years ago, she was a string bean...5'11" and about 140 lbs. It has taken six months to lose the first 35 lbs. I'm hoping that by the time she gets to her goal weight, she'll have changed her eating habits so much that she sticks to them.

I understand the struggle because I once weighed more than she does, and it took more than a year to shed it all.
''she's a big lass'' (tall) as we would say here... I hope she reaches her desired weight and stays healthy

oh yes for sure I agree.. ther's some addcitive substance in fast food...could be sugar..could be certain oils.. who knows.. but you know at 60... she should know exactly what's bad for her....
There's a so called, 'bliss point' that works by releasing dopamine into the brain. Dopamine is a 'happy chemical' which our brain releases with fast food!
When you eat highly processed junk food, it releases dopamine in your brain, making it more and more irresistible.
Fast food tends to be high in salt, sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, calories, and processed preservatives. Bon Appétit.

yes but what about people who can eat fast food without becoming addcited?..I mean, I can enjoy a KFC once or twice a year...or maybe a McDonalds' cheeseburger once a year.. but I don't become addicted to it..

Agree totally. They should have warning labels on food.

I was in Costco the other day. I saw several older persons scanning UPC labels with their phones. I thought perhaps they were scanning as they go, and that perhaps Costco had developed some sort of scan as you go and GO app, that sends you past the check outs and straight to the exit door checker, to check your receipt on your phone vs what is in your cart?? (Wouldn't that be great!)

BUT when I asked this nice man he showed me it was an APP which when you scan the grocery item, it tells you if the ingredients in the product - and the amounts of each ingredient are healthy in a percentage type display.

So - the bread in my hand was a 100%/100%. 100% of the ingredients and the way they were structured in the product was 100% healthy, not considered "processed" - it was just baked bread from all natural seeds, grains, etc.

I really thought that was a good system. But then on the way home I thought: "With consumers' luck, the companies that produce those products it gives a 100/100, probably sponsor the app/device??".

Am not cynical per se but when in doubt, verify? Just a nice slick way to check labels, I suppose?
And then...all your choices are on the world wide data base in the sky!!! Joy of joys.

I haven't had fast food in so long I can't remember. But the discussion above made me recall its greasy odor. What an odd mix of attraction and revulsion!

In fairness though, I don't fry bacon nor deep fry chicken or fish. So it isn't a scent I'm too familiar with these days. Air-fried chicken parts in herbs is as close as I get.

Hawkie type into the Search field things you;re interested in. The algorithms will then offer things it thinks you like.

There is usually a column on the left side that will contain News.

I had my deacon and his wife over for supper tonight... 3 of the four advent candles were lit, we enjoyed baked chicken with tomato/lemon topping, rice, baked zucchini with Parmesan/Asiago/Romano cheese on top and chocolate mousse for dessert. They brought a bottle of Prosecco, so we each had a glass of that (italian champagne) after our meal as we sat around and chatted.

I found out when I drink champagne, I talk like a sewing machine =P

They had just returned from a recent trip to Portugal, so I was delighted to hear about that. All in all, a lovely, relaxed evening!

~I packed my son's extra vitamin and personal care supplies in a Kirkland baby wipes box (sturdy and handy) so they could be stored neatly at the bottom of the linen closet.

~Played my instrument today for the first time in a couple of months. I started by practicing McCoy Tyner's piano solo in My Favorite Things, a song I posted a couple of days ago. It has been in my head and I've listened to it a few times since. Boy am I rusty! I also went over some of my compositions that I haven't played in awhile. @Inept @ChiroDoc

~Of course I did the regular stuff: played games on my phone, watched TV and napped.

@Pepper I hope you're feeling better! I used to get headaches a lot when I was younger. They are no fun. ☹️

@Pam, I want to know what he served, if you wouldn't mind..... 🐷

It was a 'hotpot'. Layers of potato, onion, parsnip, different types of bean, some chestnuts and mushrooms etc. all in a lovely gravy/sauce. No meat substitutes, he doesn't use them in his cooking. Dessert was a vegan lemon cake with vanilla glace. Thoroughly enjoyed it. To round it all off, we (granddaughters and myself) beat mum and dad in both history and geography quiz. That rarely happens!!

Mornin', Peeps..... you won't be surprised to learn that w have yet another overcast day....

last night I had the weirdest dream about one of my brothers, and that he could speak Italian now due to a bash on the head that happened when he was a toddler.. and about helicopters on the roof of my house... so weird... 🤨

It's 10.20am now... today I stay home .. then the rest of the week I must go and get nails done.. and hair cut... I think I've decided to have it cut short.... after all...

Our dance teacher was an accomplished pianist. He taught us a couple of, "off the grid" dances that are not in general practice. One of those dances he got us to do (this was 45 years ago,) at the dance school's Christmas party. Let me tell you that the Rock & Roll jive is child's play compared to Johann Strauss.
