@hollydolly, this is what we call a car port. Same?
yes some are covered areas... this is quite a common one...

but most Car Ports are not covered they are simply a parking space where once there was a garden..

Yesterday around 1 pm. I went to put drops in my eyes and all of a sudden it felt like a lash got in my eye. It hurt and was so irritating that I could hardly stand to keep my eye open. I flushed it a couple of times with Systane Ultra lubricant then just decided to go to sleep. When I woke up it felt a bit better and slowly got back to normal.

Before that, when my son got home, he wanted to flush it with spring water. After hearing about the nano particles in bottled water I was leery, plus...how would he do it without getting me all wet? Since it was feeling better, I told him to hold off. But a couple of hours later, I had the problem again!

It bothered me throughout the night, even after more drops and lubricant. It feels a little better but I've been trying to get through to my opthamologist. They have a new system now where an answering service fields the calls. I don't like it. The first person I spoke to sounded muffled and his accent was so thick I couldn't understand what the heck he was saying. I just said "I'll call back later, have a good day" and hung up. I just reached someone else who took and will allegedly relay the message! The last time I was there, the intake tech who helped me also complained about that system. She feels it isn't serving patients well. So I'll see how long, if ever, it takes for someone to call me back.

Toddler grandson comes today. Unless there are breaks in the rain, there won't be stroller walks today. Maybe we'll sneak in a quick grocery or Costco run - the boy does love going bye-bye in the car. ❤️

Am about to start a load of laundry and will hang it to dry. Should be dry by sometime tomorrow (no rain in the forecast then). My laundry area is in the garage, including a long pole for hanging clothes and the drying rack. During an early remodel in '89, I told the contractor to move it out of the house.

WOW, it's raining. Yesterday 1/2" and today another 1/2" for a total of 2 1/10" at our house so far during the current rain season, about end of November to May. It seems another drought year is shaping up with less than 5" the whole year. Most of our water in Southern California is imported from the Colorado River and Northern California.

My wife just left for work, and I am checking for any rain damage. Luckily nothing. In 1976 I bought 2 1/2 acres (275 x 400 feet or about 95 x 125 meters) for $17,000 that I divided into four parcels, three of which I just gifted to my children because the maintenance had become too much work for me. Actually, I do very little because the kids want to tear down almost all of the stuff I built, like 4 carports, and restore the house to the way I had it built 45 years ago. This will probably increase the value of the property.

Bottom left: a flush flood will fill up the the gap below the bridge half full with run-off water.
Bottom right: this used to be the kids' play area; now it's the dogs' play area. It has a roof that started leaking.

It is super cold today. Wind chills in single digits. Will go out later. My grandson fell at recess yesterday. The school nurse felt he was "wonky" so called my son who is home for the next week. Son took him immediately to doctor. The left side of his forehead received a terrible bruise. A few hours later, son FaceTimed me, and the bruise is now also a black eye. He looks like someone beat him.

Oh, my heart, my heart hurts. I wish I could enclose him forever in a safety bubble. I am always telling him to be careful and he doesn't like that. No concussion, no evidence of that. Today they are having a big day at a monster truck show. He couldn't go to his Ninja class yesterday. Can't stand him getting hurt. The odd thing is, I never had these worries about his dad!
I know you worry but kids will be kids. I never listened to anyone that tried to protect me either as a child or adolescent. I wish I had. One day he will see how much you care if he doesn't already ❤️

Well, they left a LITTLE patch of grass in that last pic!
yes if it;s not astroturf..lol.. but yes sometimes depending on the size of the space they need..if it's only a one car space they'll often have a runner of grass on one side... for more than one it's rare to have any grass..but no-one is concerned about that, they have lawns and gardens at the back... ( well a lot of people do..not all...

many homes particualrly in the north of England and in Wales.. look like this..

1200px-Harold_Grove_LS6_8_July_2017.jpg

there is no Garden front or back. They're called Back to Back house because they're literally homes built onto each other back to back... so the parallel street to the left of this picture will look identical to this but be facing the opposite direction

When I lived in St. Petersburg, FL, the street I lived on had no driveways in front of the houses. There was an alley behind the houses where their driveways and garages were. On the other side of the alley was the driveways and garages for the houses on the street behind mine. I liked it that way but had never seen that before or since.
There are some towns & villages in southeast British Columbia that have that arrangement of home-lot access. It does seem to encourage some decorative gardening at the front of the home. I don't think it has been very common with residential-lot development since the 1950s.

I don't live in a town. But two things that I'd find interesting & encouraging in those village or town front gardens would be incorporation of some edible plantings and/or some evidence of low-water-requiring decoratives.

@packleader I was gonna write a song and call it "It Never Rains in (Southern) California." Obviously, it does so the chances of it being a big hit are slim to none;)

@hollydolly It would take me forfreakingever to find my way home if I lived in one of those back-to-back houses. I'd be afraid of trying to go home to the wrong house.

I'm home and only lasted 5 1/2 hours today, just couldn't manage the last half hour because four days in a row is too much. I tried, truly I did! Off tomorrow to rest up and gather my Self. Lordy! I really loathe inventory day. If not for inventory day, my job would be perfectly perfect.

Yeah. So it was supposed to warm up today, not by much but still... It's 44 which is warmer than yesterday, but it certainly doesn't feel like it. 57 more days until spring.

Yes I would probably find it difficult in the dark too... lol..

Been an interesting morning. Slept in til 10:30 (unheard of before retirement). Then we had our monthly Friends of the Library meeting and I was nominated to be secretary, which I accepted.

Then I took advantage of the regional manager being there to ask about the cell (mobile) phone use policy. A couple days ago, there was a gentleman that came in just ahead of me; he was talking on his cell phone when he came in and continued (at a normal volume ) while in the stacks. No cussing or yelling, but he didn’t try to whisper either. To me it was Very distracting.

The regional manager just said they did not have a noise or cell phone policy; anyone using a phone would only be asked to leave if they were being vulgar or shouting 😳😱🤯. I mean, ok, cell phones are ubiquitous but what happened to the library as a quiet sanctuary or the librarian-in-charge who made sure it stayed quiet?

Where are we as a society that capitulates instead of upholding standards? (Rhetorical question). Maybe I’ll start carrying earplugs.

Ok, rant over. At the coffee shop fixing to work on up-coming plans. Y’all have a nice day

Congrats on your new role as secretary of the Friends of the Library group.

The permitting of loud talking in the library is one of the reasons I , a life long library subscriber and borrower, stopped using them about 10 years ago... very sad, but noise now goes unchecked. Loud conversations, children being allowed to run around unchecked... dozens of noisy keyboard tapping on laptops which have replaced many books... not a place of solace or joy nowadays

So far today, I have done absolutely nothing! Dio has been doing laundry, non-stop.....while I've sat at the table and either read or sewed. I don't feel very bad as far as being sick (I'm mostly over it), but I don't any energy, yet. I'm enjoying being lazy! 😁

My tablet has been off for a few hours. It was misbehaving, so it had a "time out". So far, it seems to be ok, now.

I still did not get to the laundry room today. My shoulders are hurting from yesterday reaching into cupboards to get out heavy items. Instead I listened to music and colored. Haven't seen or talked to anyone besides my son today. I am so mad at myself........I seem to drop everything I pick up. Cleaned the bunny's cage and now eating a quick supper. I can't wait for this day to be over with.

Was supposed to drive a guy to a food bank at noon.
The car wouldn't start. Called AAA and it looked like a long wait. A neighbor came to help. Cancelled AAA. The jump wasn't working. The guys kept saying try it one more time. Tried jumping it about ten times. Then I got out and looked at the cables. They were seriously frazzled. Found better cables. The car started immediately. Why do I always think that men know better? They often do but not this time.

I hear you Katlupe, I managed somehow to throw out my
back, mid way up, and am in a lot of pain now...dang it all...
have you got a pack of frozen veggies to get on your back... ?.. if so get it on now.. for 20 minutes then swap for a heat pad... and take some muscle relaxants if you have any, if not take pain relief of some type..
