How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

I got started an hour later than planned because I slept longer than intended. I left the house about 8:10 a.m. to walk to the Amazon hub. When I left there I went to the gym and walked the treadmill. I had a long conversation with the good friend who produces my videos. I ran the dishwasher once today (loaded it last night) and need to reload and run it again. I get that dreaded chore done with the help of music. 🎶

I'll scoop the litterbox for the second time today, gather up the garbage and set it on the curb after the sun goes down. I have to take it out because my son is at our timeshare in Atlantic City. He went down so he can visit my granddaughter this weekend. I intend to chill after I get those chores done and get back to watching some things on my watchlist.

We sometimes went to Boothbay Harbor. It was great fun and closer to southern New England. Sorry for horning in on your conversation but it's nice to remember the good ole days.
We've rented a trailer on the beach at Bar Harbor, and a cottage in Boothbay Harbor. I remember the scallops (others had lobster).

So this afternoon I wanted a snack and had cheese and crackers. They were so good that I decided to have more. If a little bit is good, a lot is better, right? Nope. I ate too much and made myself queasy🤢. It's only been the last hour or so that I've felt better. I'll probably never want cheese and crackers again.

So you know wherever I am there's a drama.. can never be Drama free can it ?.. and the trip was no exception.

On my last day I visited some tropical gardens about an hour and a 1/4 from where I was staying. They are situated deep...deeeep in the countryside, very rural, so without a Sat Nav it would be very difficult to find them. Anyway I did find them using my phone Maps ( Waze)... when I came out, I started off driving through the very narrow country lanes which have a very high traffic volume .. and stopped to turn on the Sat Nav to guide me , and that's when the Music maps died. . My phone ran out of data, so could no longer give me the directions ..

I have a very keen sense of direction, but even for me this was going to be difficult, because I didnt know the area at all and all signs that were available were only pointing towards another village or hamlet and not a major town..

I took my chance and drove in one direction which I thought was the right one... literally for many miles over hill and dale in some of the most stunning countryside I've ever seen outside of Scotland.. ..but there was no signposts for any major town .

I started to get concerned because I was getting low in fuel, and I was literally in the middle of nowhere... and hadn't passed any petrol garages.. or any shops for that matter...

I eventually turned down a road which led into yet another Hamlet, and with great relief, found a small village Petrol garage. Pulled in and filled up with fuel..at least if I was going to stay lost I would have enough fuel to not get stranded.

When I went in to pay I asked the young man behind the counter which direction I should go for my destination.. and he tried to tell me, but it was very convoluted , I explained the situation with my phone Data.. and he told me to give him my phone and he could sort it so my phone would guide me ''offline'' to my destination.. and to get me home here when I left Dorset...

He spent this time doing this out of the kindness of his heart and even while serving other customers.. unbelievable kindness.. and altho' the maps weren't specific.. they got me right back to the town where I was staying, and I was able to navigate from there to the Camp site.. and then when I was going home from there to here.. it got me all the way to the Motorway..which was a good hour through country roads and the New forest and would have been very hard to find without guidance of the maps..

So, I've just searched Google maps and found the address of the garage, and I'm going to call his bosses, explain his kindness, and also send him a little thank you in the post...

If you look here on Google maps you will see this tiny garage and village store... which is where my young saviour works...

the only petrol garage for 50 miles...

Holly, he was a very good young man. Written, positive reviews for him are a great idea!

As much as we rely on our navigation systems, we still carry backup paper maps. If nothing else and we broke down in the middle of nowhere, we could use them to start a fire.

I said this to my DD.. I'm going to start carrying a paper map in the car for any future occasions like this. She explained to me why I ran out of Data... as well.. which was something I didn't even know could happen.. and she's told me how to prevent it happening again. However I take your point, anything could happen my phone could not have any signal, the phone could be stolen... I don't have Sat Nav installed in my car because my car is older.. so I will make a point of even just printing off an area map if not buy a whole map, of my destination next time.. just to have a point of reference if something goes awry..

This morning I'm teaching my monthly 'Photography for Beginners' class at a local Library. Mrs Oy has indicated that she will be on the sofa all day knitting little cardigans for our impending 2nd Grandchild due in September. That means I shall 'Nellie Off' with my camera somewhere :) I may do a recce for the route we're talking on Monday for the other photography group I run - 'Active Photography.'

Thought those of you who who aren't British or German and may not be familier with these holiday homes...might like to see inside the rental caravan on a holiday Park.. much smaller in size than American Mobile homes...

Most Caravans on the Park looked like this..altho' there were a few privately owned variations...

Camp.jpg

they are VERY hot inside... the interior is very small... 12x28 ...inside... the passageway is very narrow about 18 inches wide, so if the bathroom door gets opened, it's impossible to open the opposite bedroom door at the same time without causing damage to each door.... they all open outwards..

the bed is just 4 feet wide...and between the bottom of the bed and the bedroom door, there's just enough space to get in, and no more. There is no space at all for any other furniture than the bed...

It has all you need except for A.C. Did it have a fan?

Aw, I wasn't sure how that story was going to turn out but it will be a nice vacation memory! It sounds like you weren't at the point of panic by the time you found gas. It was meant to be an adventure for you. 🙂

Well I was actually very nearly on the point of panic. The fuel was very low, and it was getting late in the day... so I was soo relieved when I found this garage... :D

Hollydolly, glad you got back safe and sound. Mrs. L's car has a satnav, but it's never been used and my camper doesn't have one. We do have various O.S. maps to cover the country and before long trips, we go over the route together.

Nice pictures. It's many years since we ventured to that part of the world.
Thanks Capt.....as I said I think I will at the very least print out a one or 2 sheet Map in future at least for the area I'm staying if it's an unfamiliar place... and keep it in the car... .

I'm usually pedantic about keeping the tank full or nearly full, but I'd covered so many miles..first getting to Abbotsbury which was an hour and a quarter from the accommodation and then getting lost and driving so many miles in the wrong direction.

Incidentally... I drove through the New Forest several times, because part of it as you know probably, is close to Dorset..Lyndhurst ..which is just a gorgeous place itself... etc... Such stunning beauty....

yes it absolutely did have all you need for a very short stay.. including cutlery, crockery and cookware..

The bedding was very clean... .. and altho' I hurt myself several times being caught on the corner of the kitchen counter trying to squeeze between the dining chairs and the counter... it was an absolute ideal place..if ONLY it had Wi-Fi....:D sadly that took most of the joy from it for me... because I couldn't plan any trip for the next day on my phone.. I couldn't read the news, I couldn't even see what the weather was going to do..( remember we'd had 2 days of flooding while I was there ).... and most of all because I was a Solo traveller, I had nothing to entertain myself in the evening..

...but as an accommodation you're perfectly correct , absolutely everything you need for a short stay... and very cheap..... but I would have paid more if it had Wi-fi . !

You do realise I meant the whole thing is 28x12..not just the livingroom?...lol that's the size of my livingroom....here at home...
Yup. I knew you meant the whole place, and holy cow, even your living room is bigger than The Hovel.

I gotta throw on some grubbies and get my bony butt outside before it heats up. Right now only 68 but high temp today pushing 100. Still no rain in sight.

Had a decent night's sleep to cover yesterday's sleep fiasco. It's starting to really hurt my health. I know why I got up yesterday at 2 am. I wanted a cigarette. All these years of battling this addiction I wake up for lack of a substance I haven't had in a long while. The fight against smoking never stopped. Much easier to give up alcohol, almost never desire it, and when I do it is easily conquerable. Not so with the evil weed tobacco.

This morning I'm walking 3 blocks back to my old apt building, help the garden committee{which I was a member} residents do some cleaning in the garden. I'll give my friend, Mary my copies of this week's NYT&magazines I still have my keys to my apt so I'll go in to look at it for the 1st time since I moved. It will look strange without any of my furniture in it
